I went to a fairly multiracial school (with a bit more black kids than the rest) where pretty much everybody said it and no one cared as long as it was the variation with the "a" at the end. Like, "my dude".

Back in high school, some random older black kid referred to me as "This <n word> right here" and in my head I was all "neat I just got called the n word lol"

I'm not black myself, but I was a little baffled at first when I started going to high school. But at the same time, I thought it was pretty chill that there was no negative stigma amongst the black kids towards non-black kids saying it.
I had a Vietnamese friend that would say it after every four words in a thick accent lol

My high school demographics were nearly the same and my current city has an even higher share of the population that is black and I think it is odd and have not seen that as a generally acceptable thing in any social circle, which is different than letting particular people you know say it around you or your group (which is much less uncommon, yeah)

I couldnt care less. I grew up in a very diverse area and we all said terrible, offensive things to each other on the reg, out of love. I dont care what words my friends say (its all about intent) and I certainly dont give a shit what words people I dont care about use.
