Lab calls you and asks you to get their samples for them because they are running behind. Two spots for 2 gas samples.

You go to the inlet spot you have always gotten your sample at previously. The rubber tubing is cut. There is no way to possibly get the sample here. You know there is another spot to get the inlet sample, but you are not entirely sure where it is. So, you call the foreman to ask him and he says he is busy and will get to you soon. Then the higher up foreman walks in and asks what is wrong. You say I just need to know where the inlet sample is to be taken for the lab who asked me to get it for them.

Said foreman begins yelling at you saying how you do not know your job and how ridiculous it is. You say I have always gotten it prior at the other spot. He starts screaming more about how you been here for 5 years (not true) and it is ridiculous no one knows their job and how fucking crazy this is to not know every single day shit. (Which it isn't). I get angry and yell back that it isn't my fucking fault I never had to get it from the other spot before. He comes across the room and bumps his chest into me and is screaming at me from basically kissing range which is getting spit all over my face that he is tired of my shit and he is about to send my ass home and that I do not know my fucking job.

We yell back and forth for about a minute more. He yells and says come with me I'll fucking show you how to do your job. I say I am not going anywhere with you and it isn't my job anyways. He starts yelling it isn't your fucking job? I said no it isn't. I was doing it for the lab it is not my job. He yells come with me. I said no I am not going anywhere with you. You do not know how to talk to people, and in fact, I think I am going to call the HR right now and state how you are screaming at me.

He comes up and says in a normal voice. Listen, we are having a lot of problems today. I have a lot going on. There is a lot of stress everywhere. Can you just let me show you where the spot is?

I said, I will let this all go under the bridge and went with him so he could show me the spot.

He spent like 15 minutes screaming at me when supposedly so busy instead of just telling me or showing me in 5 seconds.

So, this all happened in front of another employee. We are both Union. He isn't. He screamed at me. Physically bumped me. Got spit all over my face. And, threatened to send me home / possibly fire in his profanity laced tirade.

What would you do in this situation?

I probably wouldn't have yelled back at him.

He was definitely in the wrong, but it sounds like that was why he wound up yelling at you even more than he did right off the bat.

Has he gone off like this on other employees? Because that is an unacceptable reaction for asking a simple question.

Report him to HR. No amount of stress is an excuse to scream, swear, and physically assault an employee.

File a grievance through your union. That's free money for you and unless he has a ton of these nothing will really happen to him.

I would go to HR, because this sounds like he is creating a hostile work environment and he has no right to speak to you the way he did

Yeah. He is known for it but it is the first time he made physical contact with someone.

You don't get money for a grievance unless it is a money related issue. If he had sent me home, I would have filed one and gotten. Paid for the day despite not being there.
