Current Events > I'm playing the Uncharted series in its entirety. When does it get good?

Bought the Drake collection on the holiday sale. I'm about 30% done with the first game's campaign. The first game didn't really age well from what I can tell imo. Got this far in an hour and a half so hopefully the game isn't too long.

I've played bits and pieces of each other games but never from beginning to end. I heard 2 is the worst and 4 is the best. Is that true? I love the old and new Tomb Raider games so I'm hoping I'd like this series. The combat is really mediocre so far though but the puzzles are decent.

2 and 4 are really good, I never played 3. Lost Legacy is supposed to be great but I haven't played it yet. Whoever told you 2 is the worst is objectively wrong.

1 is OK but 2 vastly improves over it.

I have no idea where you heard that. 1 is by far the worse. 2 is when the series really finds its groove.

I like 2 and Lost Legacy the best personally. 1 is pretty meh.

2 is generally regarded as the best, so not sure where you heard that from. If you get about an hour into that one (2) and still aren't digging it, you probably won't find anything in the others that would warrant finishing them all.

I love 1 but that's because I played it when it first came out back in the day when it was awesome. 2 blows it away. I still think Uncharted 1 hasn't aged as badly as everyone says.

2, 3, 4 and Lost Legacy are all extremely good good games

Read somewhere that 2 wasn't good a while back. They could have been talking out of their asses though. If it's better than the first than that's great because this game is kinda a chore to get through.

1 felt very samey to me. It seems like the game wants to spawn a bunch of goons no matter where you are. Even when it doesn't make sense. It never has room to breathe.

The biggest improvement is that the series learns how to pace itself more like a blockbuster movie.

The combat is still similar but how it structures and presents that combat is a big improvement. 2 has some real incredible set pieces.

I bought the Drake Collection with my PS4.

Most boring bunch of games I have played in a long time. It was so bad that I just quit halfway through 3 and sold it and the copy of Uncharted 4 that came with my PS4.

Everyone says 3 is the worst but apart from 4 it's the best one of the PS3 trilogy.

I like the stealth better, the melee was better, the setpieces are great, the puzzles are better, the music was great, I preferred the characters and throwing back grenades was awesome.

It is extremely repetitive, with Drake just gunning down waves and waves of enemies but it does get better by the final segment.

I platinumed it and finishing it on Crushing was a chore. Still, a pretty good game.

These waves of enemies popping up behind me are not fun. The gunplay sucks in this game.

4 and lost legacy are the only ones where the actual shooting is pretty good. they improve after 1 slightly in certain ways (like enemies hit reactions and hp), but they arnt great till much later in the series. i will say though that the series does move away from the obvious combat gauntlets that are in 1. the others feels more natural in that regard.

It doesn't. It's an AAA cover shooter with generic gameplay. Tomb Raider is much better.

well one of the bigger draws of the uncharted series is the cinematic cutscenes and banter between the characters
and the first game does have that

but its on a smaller scale than the second game
everything seems so much bigger in the second game, from the action scenes to the adventure itself everything is just more grandiose in uncharted 2

one thing i really like is that even thought sully and elena arent playable characters they dont feel like sidekicks
it feels like this is their adventure too and they arent just along for the ride
which is how it feels in uncharted 2 and 4 and is one of the biggest failures of uncharted 3

The cover system in the first game is pretty bad too. How long is the first? And is the story worth getting through it anyways? I might roll back to normal difficulty. Hard isn't too hard but it definitely doesn't seem worth it.

Honestly I wouldn't bother with Hard for any of the games. Enemies are bullet spongy enough in the first 3 as is.

Each game is around 8-10 hours except for Uncharted 4 which is around 16 hours.

1 is good not great. It was great when it was new.
2 is really really good.
3 is not quite 2 but still really good. Had a disappointing amount of filler but some of the best action sequences.

I never played 4

I thought the first three were some of the most boring and repetitive shit I ever played though. People talk about how great they are cinematic-ally but if I want to watch Indiana Jones I'll just watch Indiana Jones.

Only played 3 and 4, and found both of them amazing.

Though, most people say 2 is the best, but I have intention of going to play it.

Not only are they bullet sponges, but the third game's AI makes them aware of this fact, and has them behave in completely suicidal ways simply because they can. This is just bad game design, no matter how the developer wants to spin it.

first game is about 6-8hours. if you arnt having fun id just skip it and look up some story cutscenes.
