...was he just supposed to assume they were cops and not looking to harm him? People who don't look like cops in a car that isn't a police car pointing guns at him and shouting commands at him...how the fuck did they expect him to act?

Something that's really weird to me is that whenever I see these stories develop, a considerable amount of people think any resistance shown is grounds for execution.

Like I understand that acting out is not good, but it's bizarre that this is "fair, next" material to a lot of people.

You almost need to be trained to know how to handle the police in America. Or you risk being gunned down.

I know it's different because of the amount of guns there but god damn.

Hey man just assume that every random person who has a gun is a cop and you'll survive any encounter with them as long as you do exactly as they say tbh

If they showed their badge and made it clear they were police, then fair next.
If not, then no. I feel like either way, this isnt what plainclothes officers should used for.

and then they killed someone. he had no way of knowing they were cops. he had no reason to assume they were cops. Maybe he pulled over because he figured they were at first, but after noticing the lack of uniform or lack of markings on the car thought they might be out to hurt him and sped off. when they persisted he might have tried to defend himself....

...again, his actions can be considered "stupid" but it in no way justifies killing him.

Sounds like suicide by cop, sadly.

no it doesn't. if two random men in normal clothes were shouting at you to do something while pointing a gun at you why would you just assume they were cops?

According to officials, the driver subsequently ran into at least two parked cars; the second officer caught up with the driver at this time.

Police backup arrived, including uniformed officers.

Pretty sure he knew they were real police by then. And if he didn't then I don't know why he got out of his car. But as usual we probably don't have the full story.

it would be one thing if the guy ran down an alley, but if he did use his car as a weapon, ran into and put other drivers in danger while still resisting, ignoring all commands and going for his waistband then how many chances is he supposed to get?

I'm sure he knew it was the police from the beginning. Unmarked cars still do have sophisticated lights on the vehicles and I'm sure they identified themselves.

I'm sure it will come out that he knew the car was used in a homicide, he had warrants, etc.

He was using his vehicle as a deadly weapon, striking other cars and making contact with an officer.

Sad situation, but this isn't the smoking gun of "Cops just walk up and shoot black people for no reason at all"

yeah if the plates really matched and he tried to run over a cop that's fair, next.

I got home from having drinks with my friend one night and we were sitting in the car, and just as she's about to get out and piss in the driveway like 3 cops pulled in behind me. apparently my car matched one that was in a hit and run. they just id'd me and asked where we were and left though
