Fucking LOVE Nekrogoblikon. Wish they'd tour in my area again because It's been over a year since I saw them.

Best part was the dude in the goblin suit actually came in costume with them

Metal isn't geared to the mainstream audience and would need to be uprooted completely to change that.

Wat?

I guess Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, and Mastadon don't either exist or are not considered metal to you.

Anyways, I've been on a Motorhead kick for the last few days.

Let's not forget Lordi winning Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 breaking the point record back then.

They were mainstream 30 years ago yeah but not today. Those bands have legendary status because they're that old and came fron a time from when Metal was in the mainstream spotlight but it fizzled out and is gone pretty much, no bands that are formed today will ever have a chance of getting that level of spotlight today, It's just impossible. Mastodon have a softer sound and are more popular than any Death or Black Metal bands yes, but to call them mainstream is a stretch

It's a nice self fulfilling prophecy you've got there of simultaneously saying metal can't be mainstream anymore while simultaneously saying metal that has been mainstream since then isn't metal because you don't like it or want it to be.

I guess the fact that those older groups still make obscene amounts of money with their tours and draw in huge crowds full of young people means nothing whatsoever, then.

Because in other genres of music as you get older you get more irrelevant over time Metal has the opposite effect as you're taught to respect the influences and ones who laid the foundation for what we love.

Are you going to tell me artists like Drake or Lady Gaga will age into more fame like Sabbath or Maiden Have? It won't happen, most Pop artists get forgotten most older Metal artists became legends

I'm not going to comment on the future because that's entirely just guessing shit, but you say that like every genre doesn't respect their predecessors. Tons of rock bands only got bigger with time, even well out of their prime, tons of country artists, and yes, even pop artists. Look at Michael Jackson for example, progressively got bigger and bigger until he died, even well out of his prime, and he's still highly regarded and his influence is seen in modern pop music. You should just stop trying to talk about music when you know nothing about it.

That is patently bullshit. Especially in the case of bands musically styled like Black Sabbath as opposed to more niche stuff like Dimmu Borgr

I want metal to be in the mainstream, as they deserve a piece of the pie just as much as any other genre.

It's a crying shame that Frank Mullen can't tour consistently with Suffocation because he was to work his primary job to support himself and his family.

So would I but like I've already stated due to modern Metal's abrasive and aggressive nature It's just not appealing to your casual listener of music. Metal isn't radio friendly and because of this it will never be mainstream

It is, I've met Ricky and while I think he's a great guy he can't hold a candle to Frank who's last show here in NOLA I saw but almost nobody showed up because Yob were playing at the same time

Wat? Every single band I listed still sells out arenas and gets plenty of radio play. I guess that isn't mainstream enough.

If a band is selling out venues, one of the main attractions at festivals, and getting plenty of air play and music videos, then that pretty much makers them mainstream, does it not?

I never denied that, my point is they are far from the point of being completely mainstream this day and age and were grandfathered in for lack of a better term, you aren't going going to hear Maiden or Sabbath on any hits stations either mainly Rock or Classic Rock stations and if It's a modern Rock station they will be heard much less than modern artists who will get more airtime to push their albums

Your average person off the street isn' t going to have knowledge of any Iron Maiden or Judas Priest songs

None of those things count as mainstream success

Do you know how many obscure ass bands I've seen at huge fests like MDF with giant crowds? If you're selling out small clubs that barely hold a hundred people, then no that is not mainstream, nor is making a small budget music video

Even huge Metal bands that play arenas regularly like Lamb of God's popularity is dwarfed in comparison of actual mainstream artists
