Current Events > Is it me or NY parties (or even parties in general) are ultimately boring?

Went to a house party for NY with a friend organized by our mutual friends, around 50-60+ people were present. Arrived at around 2AM. Other than making jokes with the people i knew, not much else was interesting.

I quit drinking and i dont dance unless its very specific good music (which was trash, and they only put on 90s gangsta rap when we were leaving). I was so bored i started helping with stuff and generally keeping an eye on the order of things (no smoking inside, do not enter the "staff" room, wiping spilled water, etc).
Then my other 2 friends who were at the bar, took off their clothes and went to the pool and tried to drag me in. I scuffled them back and blocked behind the door until they calmed down. Yeah they were drunk but still a shitty move on their part. In the process i hit my head and bruised both feet (which i had an injury on from playing soccer).

Eventually i left with the friend i came with, he wasnt into it at all. Walked around the city trying to find an open eating place (unsuccessfully) then went home.

And i can say this about any party ive ever been to. Unless i drink my head off, its not fun, and i only get that drunk extremely rarely and decided to quit even that. Its always marred with bad music and and atmosphere thats not really welcoming to human interaction.

I was going to highly disagree with you until I saw 50+ people. That's way too many people. A good chill evening with 6-12 friends is great though

Yeah id much prefer if we gathered with a close circle of friends, but that wasnt the case and nobody organized anything. I didnt even plan to leave the house until friend told me about the party mere hours before.

Completely depends on the person. The amount you can do with a complete Random stranger is limited, and if you are an introvert, warming up to them like they was a friend is near impossible. Some people just hate random parties, like me.

Well id feel way better if they music was half good and to my taste. I have to be drunk to actively socialize and dance, otherwise im really reserved in my behavior.

That's a lot of people but there's no way I wouldn't have made the most of it.

Most people seem really distant to me, so unless theres a very specific reason, i avoid interaction.

Yes, but as i said the atmosphere isnt really the most welcoming one for meeting people, theres no unifying theme and no one hears anyone with all the noise so you have to specifically approach people and start small talking about nothing with the risk of being a bore. Its so expected of you to put yourself out and talk to people that the whole things just turns me off.

I mean I went to a party with maybe 25 people yesterday and knew about half. It was a good time. I drink and that was definitely a big theme of the evening but I didn't get shit faced but I enjoy company. I met people. I worked the room.

Ive done parties sober and they haven't been as enjoyable but I'm pretty shy so it often makes me uncomfortable but I still enjoy them but Im weird shy I guess. It makes me feel uncomfortable but I enjoy being around other people.

I actually hosted the most boring party ever. it was only like 10 people and all every did was sit around sipping beer and made very casual bland conversation. if i wasnt driving the conversation everyone would just be staring at each other awkwardly lmao
