Water Love

"How long have I been separated from them now?" a Lapras said out loud to himself, swimming swiftly through the seas. About a week ago, his pod had got caught up in a terrible storm. During the chaos that ensued, Lapras got knocked out by a piece of debris and was separated from his friends. The next day after the storm, he awoke and found himself beached on an island he didn't recognize. Since then, he's been swimming all over the ocean, trying desperately to find his friends. "It's no use, I'll never find them again" he mumbled to himself, sobbing gently. Unfortunately, he was one of the very few Lapras's who had absolutely no sense of direction. He could've traveled around the world ten times for all he knew.

Suddenly, a dense mist began covering the ocean around him in all directions, making it all but impossible to see where he was going. "What the hell is going on? The sky was clear in all directions just seconds earlier." Despite the fear welling up inside of Lapras, he pushed on, moving determinedly forward through the water. The fog was so dense he could barely see the tip of his nose, even though it was only a couple inches from his face. He cried out for help, but was surprised that even he could not hear the sounds leaving his mouth. He tried again, straining his ears for any sound, but none came. Now he began to panic. He turned completely around and began swimming as quickly as he could in the opposite direction. But Lapras had barely gone 5 feet before the mist vanished as quickly as it appeared. Once again, the clear, blue sky shone unobstructed in all directions.

"Wow, that was really messed up" he said. Lapras shook his massive head to calm himself down. "Oh well, I'm starving, time to look for some grub." He dove underwater, his massive body moving agilely through the water as he looked for something to eat. He passed a school of clownfish, ignoring them at first. But when he actually looked at them, he let out a startled gasp. "Whoa, I've never seen this species of Pokmon before! Hey! How's it going?" he yelled out to the fish. They just ignored Lapras, darting away from him in the water. "Jerks" he mumbled under his breath. He let out a deep sigh and then continued on his search for a meal. "Mmmmm" Lapras groaned as he spotted a patch of seaweed. He swam quickly over to where it was growing and began to help himself to generous portions. "Hmmm, tastes different somehow, but it's not bad. Lapras quickly ate his fill and then continued his search for his lost friends.

About 10 minutes later, he spotted another creature he didn't recognize, swimming by itself near the surface of the water. It had a sleek, grey body with the tail of a Vaporeon and dorsal fins on the sides and on top of its body. Lapras yelled out again, "Hi! I've never seen a Pokmon like you before. How're you doing?" The creature stopped and just stared at him, sizing him up. "Uh, hello?" he asked more tentatively this time.

Finally, the creature answered him. "A pok-what? What the hell is that?" Even though he didn't know what it was, the voice clearly distinguished it to be a female. "I'm a bottle-nose dolphin, if that's what you're asking. I've never seen anything quite like you around here. What the hell are you, if you don't mind my asking?"

Lapras was surprised that this 'dolphin' wasn't talking like Pokmon usually do. But somehow he still understood her. "Uh, I'm a Lapras. You know, the large, water Pokmon?"

"Look, I don't know what a 'Pokmon' is. But you're a Lapras? Is that what you called yourself? I must say, you're kind of cute" she said, smiling, finally breaking the tense atmosphere that had been building up.

Lapras felt the heat running to his face and simply nodded his head to confirm her questions, and then quickly turned away to hide his blushing face.

She was a gorgeous creature and he was already beginning to feel awkward talking with her. She swam close enough to him then so that he could feel the small waves that she caused splashing against his body. "Aww, come on. There's no need to be shy. I'm sorry if I was rude to you at first, if you're not wary of every new thing you see in the ocean, you won't be living long. My name is Dory, by the way" she said, smiling up at him. "You're not from around here, are you?" Dory asked him.

"Uh, I don't think so. I honestly have no idea where 'here' is" Lapras replied, sighing. Suddenly, he saw another dorsal fin break the surface some distance from where the two of them were talking. "Hey, is that a friend of yours, Dory?" he asked, indicating the newcomer.

She turned around to see what was coming and then screamed out loud. "That's a shark, you idiot! We've gotta get outta here!" Dory began swimming quickly away from the shark with a very confused Lapras following her.

"A shark? Why are we running from it?" he asked, totally oblivious.

"Because if we don't, we'll be its lunch! Where exactly are you from Lapras?"

"I'm from a bay in southern Johto" Lapras said.

"Johto? Never heard of it." She looked behind and cursed. "Damn it, he's gaining on us. We're going to have to fight him off."

"Don't you worry about a thing, Dory. I'll take care of it." Before she could argue against him, Lapras leapt out of the water and turned completely around in midair, aiming himself at their attacker. He unleashed a Swift attack at the shark, catching it totally by surprise. It recovered from the hit and began moving even quicker towards Lapras. "You want some more?" he taunted the shark. With that, he fired an Ice Beam, hitting his target directly between the eyes. The shark had a surprised expression on its face as its body was encased inside ice. And then he sank down to the ocean floor, no longer a threat to anyone. "Well, that takes care of that" Lapras said, turning around to rejoin Dory. He looked at her and she stared straight back at him, her mouth gaped open in shock.

"W...What did you do?" she stammered.

"Huh? It was just a simple Ice Beam attack. That shark didn't even try to dodge it" Lapras replied in a boasting voice.

"What the fuck? Now I'm convinced that you're not from around here. You can fire beams of ice out of your mouth?" Dory asked, still staring in amazement at Lapras.

"Yeah, it's no big deal, really." To emphasize his point, his fired an Ice Beam at an oncoming wave, freezing it momentarily.

"Wow, that's really awesome!" she yelled. "I don't want to bother trying to figure out why you possess such powers. All I care about is the fact that you saved my life. I don't know what you'd like as a reward, so I'll give you the one thing no guy would ever refuse" she said, grinning up at him.

"What's wrong?" she asked, noticing his depression.

"It's nothing, really. I got separated from my pod mates during a storm several days ago. I had been searching for them, totally clueless as to where they might be. But that doesn't matter, I've found you now" he said, gently nuzzling against her face.

"That's really sweet of you" she said, returning his affection by lovingly nuzzling his face also. "You're more than welcome to come with me and join my pod" she offered.

"Thanks!" Lapras said, trying to express the genuine joy he was feeling for the first time in days. "I'd really love that!" And with that, the two new lovers swam off towards the setting sun, both of them looking forward to their new lives with each other.
