If you're currently overweight, you regularly eat too much for the amount of physical activity you do. That's all they're really is to it ultimately.

Eat less, do more, or - preferably - attain a healthier balance between the two.

Like Archie said right above me that's ultimately all that matters for losing weight.

My advice would be planning out a diet for yourself, a set number of meals/snacks per day. Don't starve yourself, but just try to keep it under 2000 per day tops, 1500-1750 if you can.
That alone will help more than anything else but adding in cardio workouts and healthier foods can help even more.

Don't worry if you slip up here and there and also don't be afraid to give yourself a cheat day to splurge a bit more.
It's not going to happen overnight but making a plan and setting goals can be really helpful as well as rewarding.

Also the beginning is the hardest part usually. If you can stick to a plan for a few weeks it starts getting significantly easier for most people.

Yeah that's pretty good. There are certain dressings that can be less healthy than others but as long as you're still watching your calories as a whole it's not a big deal.
