2017 was the year of injustices bubbling to the surface. We confirmed Hollywood cant keep it in it's pants. Its good to see those fucks squirm.

It at least feels like less cops are killing black people for no good reason. Maybe the pigs got a little less trigger happy or maybe they're better at hiding the bodies.

We found out most of the government cant keep it in it's pants. A pedophile didnt get elected despite the support he got from the President and his shit loving cronies. Thats cool. Also our white supremacist, tryhard tyrant, pedo loving, environment destroying, nazi defending, minority killing, Putin sucking, prostitute pee loving President is one year closer to being thrown out on his ass for being the vile traitor he is to this country.

So, you know, not too bad of a year. A shame America has a Nazi infection tho. Just another thing on the list

Not when people keep changing the definition of the word "nazi."

Reproductive rights, a reasonable tax structure, laws surrounding health insurance, net neutrality, US climate change action, international goodwill, staffing of government offices, a literal ban on immigration targeting countries with high populations of Muslim people, the literal of rule of law with regards to the powers and checks of presidency.

Our Nazi infection is just the most recent flare up of our white supremacy herpes. At least you and I have the cultural context to know what's up with that. Our parents and grandparents have seen it before and they weren't surprised. I wonder at the white people who believed themselves to be above all this only to find their neighbors actually talking about ethno-nationalism again, and 'peaceful ethnic cleansing' without the customary white hoods. But this is really a tangent.

The ideological and organizational columns which uphold much of this country are in freefall. Listening to ideologues like Bannon, this is a feature and not a bug of 'new conservatism,' which is really just old school ego anarchism, with the same shocking but intellectually empty polemics. In my naivety, these are things I thought we would never see again in our history, let alone in my lifetime. 2017 has shamed and degraded us as a people and torn away the gilding of some the truths we tell ourselves about our American cultural values. Over the next few years some of us will look at that and attempt to do something about it, but for the most part I think we'll continue seeing people look for justifications to do nothing.

2016 was horrifying, but none of the bad shit was actually happening yet. The angry orange man was just threatening to do all of the above (and more), and literally everyone thought everyone else would be reasonable and say no. In a way, 2017 is a well-deserved bit of karma for those who got comfortable and complacent. To everyone else though (who doesn't harbor white supremacist views or hand wave those that do) 2017 is a catalog of ongoing injustices that were entirely preventable.
