It's kinda funny when all the "you don't NEED to use lootboxes! They're just options! EVERYTHING IS OBTAINABLE IN GAME!" bullshit is laid bare. Strip the shit away and you're left with a grind that's absolutely unbearable. It's almost like, gasp, the game was built entirely around them

I don't recall anyone ever saying this. I don't even think EA/DICE said this.

I bought the game on launch, actually finished the story (rare for me to finish games though I guess it wasn't too long) and played multiplayer for about a week. Don't know why I haven't uninstalled yet.

This. Accidentally deleted all my games the other day, not going to bother redownloading it any time in the near future. PC version is a graveyard and it is next to impossible to find a match a lot of the time.

the best thing about it is that you're never forced to use cars you don't want to drive since you can customize events to allow whatever cars you want into them

i think the game play is really fun. yeah the loot boxes were a shit idea but i never really find myself saying "man that guy only killed me cause he has higher level cards!" or anything like that. its a shame the loot boxes thing ruined its image, the game is pretty fun and i say that as someone who thought battlefront 1 was terrible

Here's the problem: collecting all the cards is meant to be impossible.

Stop treating it like an unlockable you have to complete like every other OCD gamer out there and it's a pretty decent shooter.

I've played for maybe 20 hours and have full green or blue cards on literally every class, every starfighter, and a good chunk of heroes. It doesn't net me more kills. Maybe once in a while. In the grand scheme of things, a drop in the bucket.

Getting every ship and hero unlocked took like maybe 9 hours total. Much less when you consider a lot of guns in CoD can't be obtained until near max rank, which takes a good 15-30 hours of gameplay.

I admit it's a pretty shitty character progression system. But it's not a required component of the game. Turns out, just playing it, 35 bucks was a steal for me. Starfighter assault alone relives a lot of my rogue squadron days.

It actually has a lot of glitches that screw it up and make it less enjoyable.

Though I only care about Starfighter Assault.

As for the cards, I've never had a real issue with them. You get credits from matches, use credits to buy crates, get crafting parts from crates, use parts to create and upgrade your own card. If you're any decent you should get a crate worth of credits in 4 or 5 matches.

Its a p solid, fun game. Definitely worth $35.

Good question

I think the starting cars are like, BMW M4, Nissan Silvia. Not Lambos, but certainly not Pintos either. It doesn't take long to start winning and buying super cars, either.

The lag really tarnishes things... I haven't had my enjoyment lessened by the pay-to-win loot boxes, honestly. I'm sure they've made a difference some of the time, but it's not that noticeable. Apparently Criterion is shifting gears to focus on offline content, which I assume is just bot-match content (and what I honestly want the most, to bypass the lag).

I don't remember which were the starter cars beyond the Holden Maloo ute, but you get cash relatively quick and can start to afford whatever you want after a few hours of racing

There was initially supposed to be a cash shop, but the controversy made them disable the paid boxes indefinitely.

Indefinitely not meaning forever, just presumed to be when the "heat" dies down. But thus far, they haven't activated them, the game has been 40% already, lowered the in-game credit cost for all the locked heroes, still has an active userbase, and they gave away the first DLC season for free.

Like I'm glad people gave a stink for it, but EA listened. I'm still pretty guarded with their practices as a whole, but I don't feel guilty for getting BF2. I got my $35 worth easy.
