Note: I don't own a Switch so no Mario or Zelda for me this year and I have Horizon, but haven't started it yet. Prior to this my top game for 2017 was Wolfenstein II.

I liked Life is Strange. It was a pretty flawed, but good game. A nice take on the telltale formula with a smart gimmick being able to rewind choices. But the writing was way over the top and sounded like a 30 year old man writing for teenage girls, the super natural part of it was both too played out and not explained and Max was not a compelling protagonist.

When Before the Storm was announced I gave a simple "Meh". Chloe was a pretty annoying character with her try hard attitude and outbursts. None of the side characters were too interesting that I felt the need to explore them and Rachel Amber was just Laura Palmer.

It was a nice surprise when the writing for the spin off seemed to be improved ten fold with people sounding like actual humans and even nailing the Blackwell students down this time. None of that meme shit or Spirits Within. Just Hot Dog Man as it should be.

But I was not expecting for them to just absolutely hit it out of the ballpark with the story and relationship. I started off kind of rolling my eyes and thinking it was a bit cliche, but by the end of the first episode, I was pretty into it. By the time the final shot happened though I felt like I got punched in the gut.

I always liked these sorts of telltale games and I've played a lot. I think this is easily my favorite to come along since Walking Dead Season 1. I loved the Wolf Among Us, but this never truly stumbled at the finish line and ended extremely strong.

If you have any interest in the genre or just a powerful story at all I'd suggest you not read any further in the topic and make it a point to buy Life is Strange at some point, play through it and then pick up Before the Storm which exceeds the first game in every single way possible.

I don't even know how popular this game was because I haven't been checking out opinions or critical response, but with it being a 3 episode, spin off prequel to an alright game from 2015, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm in the minority of being this into it.

To me it wasn't even really noticeable and honestly she did just as good a job as Ashly Burch. I'd add "if not better", but this was a pretty big step up in how much Chloe has to actually deal with, so it wouldn't be fair.

100% go for it.

I did the same thing.

I hesitated because I thought the idea of Rachel being a character was a mistake and I didn't think the original needed a sequel or prequel.

It still doesn't and I was right, BUT its a really good game.

More of CE needs to play it

I disagree with TC tho. The original game was better than the Prequel and Max >>>>>>> Chloe.

I absolutely loved Life is Strange. Bay ending stuck with me for a good week or two and had me contemplating things, heh. I'm sure I'll pick up the prequel sooner or later...my hang up though is that LiS did a pretty good job of expanding Chloe's backstory so I'm puzzled as to why a prequel was needed.

I've been too hesitant to buy it because I don't really see the point of it even existing so I figure I'll just wait for a good PSN sale. I've seen LiS go on sale for $5 multiple times before they eventually gave it as a PS+ title. Maybe if the whole thing is like $5-$10 I'll pick it up.

All 3 episodes for the main plot are released.

There is one upcoming seperate standalone DLC episode called Farewell coming out in March next year about Max moving out.

That's also the end of Chloe and Max forever
