I mean there's kind of a difference between quarter hogging and paying money in a thing you already paid money for to access locked content that isn't optional cosmetics

Is it? You pay to play the game, then you have to pay for more lives. You have to pay for multiplayer.

My point is really that the whole, "golden age of artists making video games for the benefit of mankind" image is complete nostalgia. There are countless examples of the same sort of behavior since the beginning. How about ET? The countless cheap movie tie ins across all systems? The literal fucking dot from the sprite can having his own video game?
