Thinking I might buy FF15 while it's so cheap. Can I get some opinions? I've loved the series since I was a kid (FF6 taught me to read when it came out on SNES) and I've been told this one plays a lot like Kingdom Hearts. I know nothing else about it. Is there a crafting for weapons/armor? What's the level up system like? More traditional or like the Sphere Grid from FF10?

Amen. Shirtless Gladio is my current wallpaper

Apparently it gets a lot better with DLC, but how the hell does a FF title get away with needing a year of updates and like five purchasable DLC releases to be good?

I played the vanilla version before all the DLC updates. Got the plat.

It was enjoyable, the game is very flawed, but it's got memorable characters and I personally found the battle system fun, if imperfect.

I knew going into it the game had problems, but I enjoyed my time with it. Which is the mark of a fun game right?

Awful. Even worse than 13. Series is getting worse with each entry since 9, sadly.

Was a solid 8-8.5/10 with the dlc and story updates. Never played the launch version but I saw a list of what scenes got added after I finished the story.

I definitely get why the launch version was reviled.

Gameplay crawls to a halt against large groups of enemies until you have enough spells to spam them and nuke them in one hit.

When I played Episode Duscae I would literally just run out and get killed so I could summon Ramuh cause the combat was so fucking boring.

It was my first and only Final Fantasy so I have no context for the series, but that's how I felt about it.

Disappointing. Surprised at the positive posts ITT. Game had so much potential too. I'd suggest saving your money. At least until a cheap ultra last bundle or something is released.

Plot is decent but the storytelling is so awful. Game is literally 80% optional sidequests. Could probably beat the main story in several hours. Combat's fun though but not enough to warrant a recommendation to buy it.

So what about Crafting and Level Ups?

Leveling up is traditional except you need to sleep at an inn to apply it. You (mostly your comrades) learn abilities by a sphere grid type board using AP you get from various activities including leveling up. There's crafting? Spells can be crafted but it's hardly an intricate process and for some reason magic can hurt your own party.

magic has hurt your own party in every FF game ever made if you cast it at your own party.

Yes. But because your party isn't segregated from the monsters by left/right, you have to be mindful of positioning. See: FF Tactics how you can hit your own party member or heal monsters because they're too close to a different target that you're casting the spell on.

There are also spells like FF6's Merton / FF9's Doomsday that just hit both teams.

I mean I can appreciate the realism but if during an action rpg battle the AI is not smart enough to move away when poising yourself to cast a spell, then just no. We are not ready lol.

Anyway this isn't a problem in FF15 so long as you are willing to sacrifice an accessory slot.

They improved it and soon we'll finally get that thing they promised around launch that will let us use any of the 4 main characters.

I ended up grabbing Vanilla FF15. I'm gonna see how that goes before grabbing the DLC. Hoping to give it a start tonight after the kids and wife go to bed.

I really like it, which is surprising considering I was one of those "Final Fantasy games should only be turn based RPGs" people before the game came out. I thought the story was pretty good, though some parts did seem missing (ive only played the vanilla). I liked the relationship between the 4 main characters. The combat was pretty fun even if i would have preferred something turn based. Phase dashing around the fight and phasing through attacks looks and feels amazing, not to mention how beautiful the magic and summons look.

I would give it an 8.5/10.

I played the launch version and had a great time with it. It does get repetitive though and by the end I felt like it had started to wear out its welcome. Does any of the DLC warrant a second playthrough or buying the GOTY edition, if there is such a thing?

Switching was already added a few weeks ago. Have to buy the ability with AP.

Do you like fan fiction? Do you like shitty, ambiguous character designs that look like they were lifted straight from the set of a Gackt video? Then FF15 may be right up your alley.
