My aunt went to India last year. She liked it, but then she was treated like an American, not a commoner. Had security, smuggled in toilet paper, things like that.

Yeah, sure.

Freddie Mercury was an Indian. He was a Parsi (Zoroastrian) of Indian descent. Zoroastrianism is the native pre-islamic religion of Iran. The only reason it survives today is because of India, as nearly all of Iran is now Muslim.

India, once spread all the way from Afghanistan to Burma and Tibet, and Indian influence can be seen all the way to Southeast Asia. Indonesia was probably discovered by Indians and there is still a small minority of native adherents of Hinduism in the island of Bali. The name Indonesia is basically a mix of India+Asia.

There are three deserts in India.
1. The Thar Desert, which is basically like any other desert. Here, temperatures are really high, going over 50C.
2. The Great Rann of Kutch, this is a salt marsh. Also, known as "The White Desert of India".
I23uXi7
That is salt not snow, and climate here is similar to the Thar, very hot.
3. Spiti Valley, and some portion of Ladakh, is a cold-winter desert. This is a desert, situated in the middle of the mountains. Climate is excruciatingly cold here. People in this region ride these rare double-humped camels, known as the Bactrian camels.
ZWdUEGU

An episode of Game of Thrones Season 7 was shot here.

A very large portion of The Dark Knight Rises was shot in another part of India.

No, British rarely intermixed with Indians. They even imposed miscegenation laws. Indians were always a mix of different races. There is mention of red hair in some Indian texts going back 1500 BC. I'm very light skinned and I don't have any British ancestry.

Uttar Pradesh is not northeast. It is north-central. North East is even further to the east. A lot of people in Uttarakhand and Ladakh look Asian, though technically they are not in Northeast.

If your ancestry came from Northeast or those two places I mentioned above, then yeah, you are technically half Asian. I don't think Hispanics count as Asian.

Another stereotype people has is that whole India is a hot desert. That's funny because the tallest mountain range in the world is in India and most of the highest peaks after Mt. Everest are in India. (Mt. Everest is in Nepal, which is a separate country but basically like a part of India that broke off)

If most of India is on the leeward side of Mt. Everest. That is a desert.

yes, india is a huge place with a huge amount of ethnic, linguistic and geographic diversity. a lot of people associate india with basically just dravidian people and don't realize how many different ethnic groups actually are in india. there's no "indian" ethnicity, but I guess you can't blame the average person for not knowing that much about india since most people don't know much about anything outside of their immediate area

Yeah, and I don't blame anyone for being ignorant. But a lot of them get very jealous or hateful when they see anything that doesn't fit the stereotype or image of India they have in mind. You can see many of them here in this thread.

That is true to a certain extent but even then there is quite a bit of diversity and you will find some Dravidians who are also light-skinned/light-eyed and northerners who are dark.

But some jealous people here like this @BlackHorse6969 don't want to admit it. They think only Europeans can have those features. He is comparing a Black man being born in China and being Chinese by nationality to the racial diversity between native Indians. He's implying all these Indians with light hair/eyes/skin must have European origin, even though they belong to native North Indian ethnicities, which have existed here for thousands of years.

Similarly, he thinks all those millions of Asian looking Indians are basically Chinese immigrants born in India.

5 arrested after 22yo Japanese tourist gang-raped for weeks in India

https://www.rt.com/news/219699-india-rape-japanese-student/

Five men have been arrested for kidnapping a young Japanese woman, who managed to escape after some three weeks of repeated gang-rape at gunpoint near a Buddhist holy site in Bodh Gaya, a popular Indian tourist spot.

A gang of men, some of whom presented themselves as tour guides, reportedly raped a Buddhist student, who came from Japan, after kidnapping and taking her to Paro village in the East Indian state of Bihar.

The student checked into a hotel in Kolkata in November. According to a complaint filed with the local police, the woman was first taken from the city of Kolkata to a beach town of Digha on November 23, where she was forced to withdraw 75,000 rupees ($1,200) from an ATM.

"We have arrested three people who befriended the victim in Kolkata. They have been charged with common conspiracy and intention to kidnap and rape," Kolkata joint police commissioner Pallab Kanti Ghosh said.

"The men managed to extort 76,000 rupees ($1,200) from her and convinced her to travel to Bodh Gaya with them in their car."

Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. (Image from wikipedia.org)

There she was reportedly handed over to other two men and taken to a village, where the woman was confined in a secluded basement room and repeatedly raped by five men during the course of some three weeks.

"When her health condition deteriorated due to repeated rape and poor living conditions, she was brought to Gaya (district headquarters) for medical treatment on December 20,"a police officer who is part of the investigation told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The woman then reportedly managed to escape to Varanasi, a city in the neighboring state. Afterwards, she reached Kolkata where she lodged a complaint of molestation and fraudulent withdrawal of money, but later, giving a statement before the magistrate, she alleged rape.

"(When) we came to know of the incident... we assisted her in registering the complaint with the police," Japan's consul-general in Kolkata, Kazumi Endo, told AFP.

India, the world's second most populous country, has seen lots of rape cases, with many of them underreported but some, such as the fatal gang rape of a medical student in New Delhi two years ago, sparking global outcry.
