Went to the butchers today.

"Hi, i was hoping for a 2 rib eyes, maybe around 300 grams each and about 2 inches thick?"

Butcher looks like I just asked him to build a hadron collider, in klingon

"Eh? What so you want that for? are you roasting it or summit?"

Cost me 30 in the end ($40) and they're barely thicker than an inch. Fuck.

Brits hate quality food and getting a decent cut of steak anywhere here is like pulling teeth. I can go into a butchers in the UK and find 15 different variations of pie, but apparently a steak thicker than a fingernail is harder to find than a hymen in a whorehouse.

There are some things which are really terrific. we have some of the best quality cold freshwater fish in the world. The indian food is amazing. And yes, the pies can be really good.

It's the general culture that shits me though. Try and show some interest in cooking something properly and suddenly you;re being a snob.The beef cuts are the worst part about this.

Unless you specifically ask for their opinion, a shopkeeper's responsibility is to either provide the product or explain why they can't. They shouldn't be judging you or trying to force a different product onto you.

Animals don't get killed at the butchers, theyre slaughtered at an abbertoire and shipped in to the butchers, where they break down the various cuts.

It's cold and theres a faint fresh beef smell usually, but they're immaculately clean and no blood anywhere. They're almost always incredibly grumpy or very cheery, never anything in between.

Limeys aren't quite like the rest of europe, we still do some things in dumb units. Height and the size of relatively small things (like your penis) would be done in inches.
