He comes full circle looking at the 2 suns setting like he did in A New Hope wanting something more out of his life.

Also does everyone just ignore the fact he has now become more powerful as a force ghost? Hell Yoda can even summon lightning to burn down a tree, so what makes you guys think Luke won't play a big part in 9?

I think what happened (nobody else talks about this) is related to him saying the Jedi are reborn on this day.

They intercut that speech with Rey lifting the rocks so we assume he's just talking about her, but my belief is that he actually sent all his Force energy out to people around the galaxy. There's no use in having this immense power in one old man, but he can create an army of Force users.

That's why in the final scene, we see a random little kid seem to take the broom off the wall using a Force grab before showing the old Rebel logo on his shirt.

A person doesn't contain the Force, it flows around and through them. Luke cannot "distribute" the Force to other people, it already propogates everywhere there is life.

I assumed that the kid was going to be a new Jedi when he grew up (I had that Anakin vibe) but I completely missed that he force-grabbed that broom.

Yeah it's very subtle. The broom is leaning against a wall and as he walks by it kind of just tips into his hands as he walks by. It doesn't fly across the room so that's why most people miss it, but yes he force grabs it

He doesn't just "go poof". He shows up in a desperate moment to provide hope and escape for the rebellion. His final act destroys whatever sanity and control Kylo has left. He mocks Kylo in those final moments making him look like a fool. Luke's final act was a giant middle finger to the First Order and especially Kylo.

That, and the fact that Kylo will never have the satisfaction of killing him, and in Kylo's mind, the Jedi. Luke dies, but on his terms, not because of Kylo or the dark side

i've come to terms with him dying because force ghosts are a thing. im just scared that mark hamill crossed mickey mouse too many times by voicing his opinions and is gonna have his role axed along with leia in the next film :(

I think he'll be ok, he probably should have known better to just go with the typical canned answers for everything, but the movie's box-office is in fine shape. I assume they'll bring him back, JJ won't have any other classic characters to play with so they'll force ghost him.
