It's just how the Nanman are portrayed. Historically, they were an aristocrat(at least, Meng Huo was) who rose up in rebellion against Shu, which Zhuge Liang eventually put down. The thing is, Zhuge Liang and Shu are the golden boys, so any opposition is generally seen or portrayed as evil(Cao Cao) or primitive and savage. This is likely the reason why Wei Yan is portrayed as such as well.

In the novel and the games, the Nanman are a collection of multiple exotic and barbaric tribes, with Meng Huo being the king of them all. Zhurong(the woman) is his wife.

We've got everything but "official" confirmation that a new studio called VOXX is dubbing the game.

It also means classic characters like Cao Cao, Xiahou Dun, and Zhao Yun will get new voices.

I'm sad to see a few go, but I'll happily take a new Zhao Yun, among many, many other characters.

Also, I don't remember his moves etc before, but guan ping still looks like he will be big for clearing groups so I'm happy

Although I think I used him in warriors orochi where he had a freeze ability on his weapon so everything including named characters just stayed in place while I spun around forever, lol

He didn't have an actual freeze element, on his weapon, but he did have a move where he slammed his sword on the ground and stunned everyone around him. That was his C3.

It's also possible you had ice on his weapon.

And it is possible that his C5 actually does in fact freeze people, but I don't think so. Didn't look like the freeze element.

Since you brought that up, in Dynasty Warriors 9, it looks like you attach elements to attacks themselves, rather than the actual weapon.

He was always part of the plans in the games as far as I remember. That's why it was weird never to include him. Plus the lore behind him.

This game does have cooking, but the food only provides temporary bonuses. One of the known bonuses is increased jump height.

I didn't like it when they first introduced it in 7, either. But over time, it made sense. Story modes haven't focused on individual characters for a long time; these days you play as a kingdom. With that said, I'm not even sure if there are separate kingdom story modes in 9. From what I gather, it sounds like it's all one story mode and you play from the perspective of which character you choose, and are free to change at will; with characters becoming playable or disappearing at the appropriate times. As long as you don't advance the main mission, you're free to play as a certain character as long as you like. And some characters will inevitably last longer than others.

Back to weapon switching. I've probably used Gan Ning ~85% before they didn't have weapon switching. I still use other characters, but it is nice that I don't have to use someone else to try out their weapon, aside from a few unique attacks or whatever.

Also, characters will use weapons besides their own differently, and supposedly, less effectively. This is straight from the site:

When Zhang He is equipped with wheels, since it is not his favorite weapon he executes regular attacks by tossing them at the enemy

When Wang Yi is equipped with wheels, since it is her favorite weapon she unleashes quick consecutive attacks on the enemy

When Lu Bu is equipped with a mace, since it is not his favorite weapon he executes regular attacks by flinging it around

When Guan Yinping is equipped with a mace, since it is her favorite weapon she executes a powerful blow to her enemies upon catching her mace after tossing it into the air

I prefer each character having their own move set, story, and so on. One of the reasons I basically switched from DW to SW and haven't much looked back. Though w/ SW 4, they're starting to get rid of that feature and make it more like DW. Not a fan...

Depends on what you mean by each spear. Zhao Yun, Ma Chao, and Zhang Fei all share the same moveset, with some unique moves between them and they have unique models for weapons befitting them.

Dengeki recently went into detail about the weapon types, but it wasn't a particularly great help.

There's 22 characters who are listed as having their own weapon type, but we know for a fact that some of them(so most likely all of them) share moves with other owners of a similar weapon type.

I certainly hope Ma Chao's signature "stick spear in ground and spin around in a 360 degree kick" is still unique only to him...

(In DW, I mean. SW definitely re-uses that, I know Nagamasa Azai does w/ his lance, and I think some other move set has it, too. Always one of my favorite moves in the series, perfect amount of awesome and silly)

Yeah, Zhang Fei looks sorta garbo. On the brighter side of things, the movesets are expanded more than they've ever been and Zhang Fei himself will likely be one of the first characters to be decloned.

From what we know of the new combat system, there should be more unique moves than in these videos. I'm even more likely to believe that's the case given that they're only showing off single musous for each character, when it is known that they have two.

Yeah, it's an all new dubbing company, so everyone's getting recast.

On the bright side, if they don't limit regions to their respective voices, there's an alternative Mandarin dub. In addition to Japanese, of course.

Only 3 of those exist. It doesn't really matter to me since I would probably just disable dub voices for a game like Pirate Warriors but the option would still be nice to have.
