The latest Media Creates data is out and the Nintendo Switch has sold 269, 684 units in Japan just the last week, more than 5 times more than its closest competitor, the PlayStation 4, which sold 50, 662 units.

But more importantly, the Nintendo Switch is possibly the fastest selling home console in Japan, besting even the most popular console in Japan, the PlayStation 2s first year of sales. As hypothesised from last weeks data, it was only predicted that the Nintendo Switch was going to do better than the best sold console in historys first year. Now it is confirmed.

Even Nintendo didn't think they were going to sell that much. The forecasts for sales were revised to be higher like 3 times this year. They literally air-shipped units to get them out faster.

It was funny watching it happen. First they were classic arrogant Nintendo who didn't learn from the Wii U and 3DS. Then they were using scarcity to create artificial demand to inflate sales somehow.

People seem to forget that the PS2 didn't sell that remarkably in Japan. The 3DS outsold it years ago. So did even the PSP iirc.

PS2 was much much bigger in the western market. This is also just first year sales, not total mind you.

PS2 is the biggest selling home console over there. It's also the highest selling PlayStation device in Japan. Only Nintendo handhelds have outsold it.

I believe the PS2 was supply constrained worldwide in its first year as well. It's hard to find articles about it now though.

Also yeah, the Switch is fucking great. A game like Doom looking 5-10% worse on a TV doesnt even remotely dent the amazing ability to then play it in bed or on an airplane. It is absurdly slick. Im hoping third parties follow Bethesdas lead.

I would say Doom looks a lot worse than 5-10%. That said it is still a pretty impressive feat that they got it running at all. It's a cool device, I'll probably give it one more year before buying tho

I would say Doom looks a lot worse than 5-10%. That said it is still a pretty impressive feat that they got it running at all. It's a cool device, I'll probably give it one more year before buying tho

Probably so if you stop and stare, but running and gunning feels very nice. The game being so fast-paced does the port favors, and I think Bethesda did a nice job focusing on what matters most to the game.

No surprise there. Japan loves Nintendo and handhelds. I'm sure it's going to be the most popular console there by the end of this gen

I had to register as an adult account through my email, just like 360 and Xbox1 to create accounts for my children. For them I can either set them up with their own email or link it to mine.

Activation limit of one Switch, WiiU, and "3DS family" unit.
There's no real "deactivate" process, other than "call Nintendo".
Cross-buy only exists for a tiny handful of specific games, and none on Switch that I can remember.

You can deactivate your account on the Switch on the system. When you transfer your account to a new switch you can redownload your games without contacting Nintendo.

If you can't deactivate your Switch I think you need to contact Nintendo though.

Deactivation sounds like a pain. How are you supposed to know when it's done charging. Like is there a light or something. Mine is just dark sitting in the dock right now. If I pick it up and put it back down it shows a solid green light on dock

They really should've put an in-depth manual with it >_>
