2 years ago I had to get an impacted wisdom tooth out. I never felt such pain before. I had to go to the hospital and get a morphine injection it was so bad (my body wouldn't stop rocking or shaking, felt like someone was kicking me in the face over and over with steeled toed boots).

That impacted wisdom tooth damaged the molar due to the pressure. Now that tooth is infected. It's not nearly as bad as before but comes and goes (5 minutes of horrible pain then fine for an hour). I got a dentist appointment in 3 hours to get it pulled. Should have had it taken out a few days ago but was hoping it would go away with some antibiotics.

A friend of mine is going through a similar experience but worse. She had to go to the hospital yesterday and now has to take antibiotics for a week before it can be pulled.

If it weren't so terrible, there'd be a lot more people dead or requiring severe treatments for it.

Even with it being so bad, people still underestimate it and end up hospitalized rather often.

At least you can rest easy knowing pulled teeth don't (or shouldn't) hurt whatsoever. It's really the sound of it being wrenched from its socket you don't forget, haha.

My friend is a perfect example of that. That's her face at the moment.

Yea, I've had my wisdom teeth out with just local anaesthetic and it was easy. Only thing I'm worried about is dry socket.

Yea that's why I was trying to avoid doing it. But a root canal is useless because the tooth will die eventually anyways. Hopefully I can get an implant done before I return to Canada. Only about $600 each here.

Yep its horrible. Had to get a root canal a few months back because of a severely infected tooth and the pain was a nightmare. Couldnt sleep couldnt eat couldnt do anything but writhe in pain.

The root canal was super easy though and didnt hurt at all.

I can sleep an hour at a time at most. Last night I woke up from pain 7 times in 6.5 hours. Luckily it hasn't been a constant pain like it was with my wisdom tooth. When the pain starts I can feel my neck just under jaw/tooth get hard and then the pain pulsates from there all the way to my ear.

I need to keep heavy pressure on it for a few minutes to have the pain subside.

So, that went fucking terribly. Couldn't get it out due the pain. She used some local, after 5 minutes started checking to see if frozen, wasn't. Put some more. Seemed fine then she started to try and pull the tooth.

Holy fuck the pain was insane. After a few tries she put even more local and tried again. The pain was so bad it brought me to tears for 10-15 minutes.

Told me to that I need to take some medication and try again in a couple days. They have me something called Ponstan and the most useless pain killer in the world, ibuprofen. Ended up going to the hospital to get something stronger (tramadol).

I think I have an infection which is why it is so painful but I have no antibiotics which confuses me. Not sure how ibuprofen and ponstan will clear it enough to keep me from experiencing some of the worst pain imaginable.

You got any bumps/bubbles forming on your gums around the infected tooth or in the general area? If so lance it asap. Instant relief, it won't cure it but you will stop hurting and the pressure will be gone.

Also what is she doin'? Can you demand to be put to sleep? They may send you to an oral surgeon for that but I'd demand it for such a rough pull.

I'm surprised they scheduled you for pulling it without the week of antibiotics beforehand.

I didn't think the infection was bad enough (very minimal swelling). I thought it was more to do with an exposed root from the broken tooth and I think the dentist did as well. She didn't even give me an antibiotic at all though, I'm going to go to the pharmacy in a bit and getting some amoxicillin, it should kill the infection.

My bottom wisdom teeth were both impacted and one of them caused the damage to the molar I'm dealing with now. They all came out super easy and with no pain at all.

I even asked the dentist through my tears why it hurt so much when none of the other teeth I've had pulled hurt. The wisdom teeth came out quick, easy and with only feeling some pressure. This was a whole different kind of pain though...

Remember to brush and floss every day, folks

I'll admit, I don't floss nearly as often as I should (pretty much never). This isn't a result of that though, impacted wisdom tooth cracked the molar and I was too stupid to get it fixed because it had never so much as caused a bit of pain and just kept putting the dentist appointment off (been telling my wife that I should get that tooth filled and capped for over a year now.
