Huh. That's never happened before, but gas prices are so comparatively high that a plane ticket costs $50 roundtrip while by car with the gas mileages costs $100. It's not always the case, but this time it is.

I've flown round trip from Hat Yai to Bangkok (about 1000km) for $35. Flew one way from Hat Yai to Chiang Mai (over 2000km I believe) for $15 due to a big promotion from Air Asia.

I mean, it's a lowcost airline. Don't know if you have those. They're like way cheaper than regular airlines. Have only like a couple of destinations at most.

On those budget airlines be prepared to get nickel and dimed for every little thing. You might not actually save money, plus if you drive then you'll have your car wherever it is you are going.
