Like back in the several first centuries or even before life doesnt change much. Sure, border change and kingdoms are rising but for the most part, life for most people are same stretching across centuries.

Since the industrial revolution, things changed drasticaly. Like from 1700 to 1800 are very different. Lifestyle change that used to take centuries become decade, decades become years.

Hell 2012 and 2017 are very different in both developing and developed countries.

I know, right? Automobiles are now a heavily used mode of transportation, commercial flights can take people around the world, humans have entered space, we now have probes that can see things outside our galaxy, the ocean has been explored a little more, information is now widely available through a worldwide network, humans now have a mobile form of communication that can span across the world, our knowledge has expanded to the point where we can entertain ourselves with virtual activities, computer imaging has advanced insanely quickly even within 5-year intervals, medical knowledge has expanded, investigative resources have advanced, culture has changed dramatically, and a lot has changed.

It took us centuries to go from bronze working to iron working. It took us like 40 years to go from airplanes to the moon lunatone.

Yeah, it actually is pretty cool that the world 5 years ago is different, now and 5 years later is different too. Keep things fresh

Eh, it's why I wouldn't be too worried if there was a global catastrophe that wiped out the majority of humanity. It'd take ~200 years to get back to the same tech level that we have now, probably faster. It's also why I can't buy Fallout's story; the games take place in the 22nd century, nearly 200 years after the world got nuked, and humanity still hasn't advanced? Still can't figure out past tech? A little regression is understandable, but not with the amount of past tech that's still around in those games (I still love them though.)

It was only 66 years between the first airplane and landing on the moon

Thats only bethesda fallout which is filled with idiocy everywhere. Black isles fallout and obsidian are actually have complex government system and starting to go back doing research and all.

Hell, the center of NCR is probably is already a sprawling metropolis. Hell, even by fallout 1, vault city is already the growing community compared to trash heap outside the community.
