It's actually true.

Qutb's disgust with 1950s American society - specifically citing the song being played in church during Christmas as the youth danced with physical contact between the sexes - led him to try to prevent Egyptian society from going in the same direction.

He became a major opponent of the Nasser regime, leading to his imprisonment and torture, and thus the radicalization of his writings up until his execution. His students included Al-Zawahiri, who in turn mentored Bin Laden, while Qutb's brother gained favor with certain Saudi princes, leading to their support of radical Islamism worldwide.
