Old Man Marley represents socialism, and baby boomers/Gen Xers fears of it.

Another character operating in the shadows of a post-family, post-liberal order: Old Man Marley.

We first learn of Marley through Kevins fear of him, stoked by his Gen X older brother Buzz, who spooks Kevin by telling him about a false rumor that the man murdered his family in the 1950s.

But when Kevin meets Marley during a church service just before the films climax, we learn that he is, in fact, a nice man. Rather than having murdered his family, he tells Kevin he is merely estranged from them, and longs for their company on Christmas. Kevin learns that his fear of the man wasnt based in fact just like many millennials are now learning that Americas fear of socialism is irrational.

In the end, the two team up to destroy the fascist Wet Bandits: Kevin lures the two into another home. There, Marley saves Kevin by hitting them with a snow shovel, the coup de grace that ends the fascists struggle for power over the McCallister home.

Pretty cool that Home Alone was explicitly calling for people to punch Nazis over 25 years before punching Richard Spencer went viral.

Kevin rejects the masters values in fighting the fascist threat, teaming up with socialism and other new tools to push them back.

Before Marleys attack, the burglars are of course subjected to Kevins network of booby traps in the films climax.

Kevin, now symbolizing the self-actualized socialist millennial vanguard, eschews the old guards approach to dealing with far-right burglars e.g. ignoring them, debating them, calling the police and uses his own tools and tactics to confront the fascist usurpers.

Channeling guerilla warriors of past conflicts, Kevin uses his environment and home field advantage to launch a devastating counter-assault on the invaders. Though the burglars are relentless, the young millennial is able to outlast their efforts. When Kevin famously asks the two if they want to give up or are thirsty for more, its hard to shake the feeling hes not just talking to the Wet Bandits; Hes talking to fascists everywhere, channeling those who came before him.

All in all, I have to say, congratulations to Home Alone director Chris Columbus for making the first pro-Antifa holiday movie. Very brave and cool. Welcome to the Resistance, sir.
