Nobody knows. The only reason we are so against slavery now is because we spend our childhoods learning slavery is bad. If we lived in a society was slavery was accepted, there would be plenty of us who would own slaves.

It's hard to imagine what it would be like now with companies like Amazon, Walmart, etc. I'm thinking huge segments of the population would be owned by single companies, with lots of corporate lobbying to make it easier to consign people. Punishments for crimes would probably eventually revolve around this, with more and more things being made illegal to widen the net.

Scary though to imagine companies being able to own literal slaves. Though I'm not sure something like Amazon or Walmart ever would have existed if slavery continued

I mean, even putting aside the horrible morality of owning another human being, I wouldn't actually have any use for a slave. I don't really have any physical labor that needs to be done, my house isn't that hard to keep clean on my own, I don't really have many errands that need to be done, I'm also not a double piece of shit that would buy a person for sexual purposes.
Like what is there even really to need a slave in the historic sense in 2017 for?
I feel like if I owned a slave they'd basically just end up being a roommate that doesn't work or chip in on the bills >_>

The language there is vague enough that it could easily be argued that is referring to involuntary servitude in the case of prison labor.
