Careful, there are quite a few CE users on government assistance who are going to get very defensive about this. Even though in the case of some of them (Dawkins), this is clearly correct.

Im not sure useless is the correct word. However, there are those in society who only consume and produce nothing. If we were not in a polite society, the biological term for such an organism is a parasite.

I dont think I classified the average person who gets benefits as this. I only said that such people exist. I know numerous people on assistance through no fault of their own. I also know fatties who wanted to get fat enough to not have to work because it interferes with their video game time. Im talking about the latter not the former.

Please forgive my infraction for using factually correct nomenclature which may offend the sensibilities of those who dont go to work.

While welfare abuse is a problem, you can't very well judge the worth of an individual based on their income or lack thereof. Not everybody is to blame for their own circumstances, especially if they're born with a physical or mental disability, or acquired such a disability as a result of circumstances realistically beyond their control. And if you think the only way to be a contributing member of society is by paying taxes, then you definitely need to put down the GOP Kool-Aid.

If I had to guess, I'd suspect his thoughts would be related to a lot of Red states having higher black populations, which tend to be poorer than white populations.

Beyond that, Red states seem to have a lot of rural folks and rural folks don't tend to have the same access to basic amenities, like affordable high speed internet, that urban folks have. There are more than a few places in my state, Louisiana, that still only offer dial-up, satellite, or mobile data for internet options. That's three flavors of shit.

There are also people who use those hand outs as a way to get on their feet and work toward the day when they no longer need them. That has been my goal my whole life. If my SSDI was cut off I probably never would have gotten to the point where I managed to get a job.

That's true; I'm referring to people like the one in the OP, who think people on gov assistance are vermin by virtue of being on gov assistance.

In fact, the guy in OP probably receives some forms of gov assistance without realizing it

There is a problem with government assistance though in that the way it's currently structured creates a trap that can't be escaped. Some people are on low income assistance and DO work, but they're right on the cusp and if they make any more money, it puts them in a hundreds-of-dollars deficit as far as monthly income, simply because the assistance they get is so large. I know someone in that situation, and she's not even trying to move up where she works because there's no pay raise that will make up for the extra benefits she gets.
