As someone who had an older phone abruptly turn off due to an aging battery, I can understand why. But I'd have appreciated transparency sooner.

In my eyes it's like throttling a processor that's generating too much heat.

so the option is not "make my phone die 30 minutes faster" vs"'throttled performance". It's "have random shutdowns well above 0% because my battery is damaged" vs "throttle performance on older devices".
