I started with IV, wouldn't rank it among the best.

The first one I actually played extensively was FFT and it's my favorite. I used to watch my cousin play some other ones before I got into them though like IV and VI I think.

Yup. I feel pretty blessed to have started the series with FF 3/6 at the impressionable age of 10 or 11 (can't remember exactly). That game turned video games from a hobby into a lifestyle.

No. started on 1 back when it came to America. Favorite is unquestionably 9 if we're not including FFT.

Nope. My first one was FF7. I still enjoy it, but it is far from my favorite.

Nah. Started with 1, although I'm far more fond of 4-6 than 7-9 and there's no doubt nostalgia is a factor to that.

Maybe not nostalgia, but there are some commonalities so first exposure matters more than something that's old hat. Like, I'm sure Aeris dying in FF7 was heart wrenching but as a FF4 vet it still paled in comparison to Palom and Porom's sacrifice.

I started fairly late on with VIII and have always had a soft spot for it, despite its flaws (most of which don't bother me that much). Now that I've played most games in the main series, I like VI, VII and IX more. IX was my favorite for a while, but now I've rested on VII.

I started with 8 and it's a top tier game but 6 and 10 surpass it's greatness

I started with 8 but I didn't like it and I stopped playing it. I took me years until I returned to beat it.
On the other hand IX made me love FF. It still is and will always be my favorite game.

Nope. FF8 was the first one I played but 7 is my favorite even after going back and replaying 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 plus the ones after.

Started with IV, and it's my favorite. Not the original Easytype SNES, but the GBA remake (Or translated SNES), and then the DS remake have solidified it as my top.

Good party size, well-defined class roles, challenging (In the DS version), and likable cast make it for me. Something that drives me through the fucking wall with games, and Final Fantasy being a notable example, is this tiny ass party size bullshit.

Baldur's Gate is a great example of party size done right, with a maximum of six. Four is pretty standard, but I find it just barely tolerable. I like to have a well-rounded DnD style party, which is ideally 5 or 6.
