it could be someone expressing their faith or someone just trying to keep up appearances so their dad or someone doesn't get pissy with them.

Anime characters wear cross accessories all the time without being religious.
Lots of Yu-gi-oh cards actually have art with characters wearing or showing a cross without it being a reference to the character's religion which have been censored outside of Japan. --- The only fool bigger than the person who knows it all is the person who argues with him. I generally don't care. only time I did is because I got told I couldn't have my necklace showing at a job I had once and had something said to me once when I bent over and it fell out from under my shirt. where as this other guy had this huge gaudy plastic cross always on display and no one said shit to him.
