https://muninetworks.org/content/totals-are-comcast-spends-900k-fort-collins-election

A month ago we were following the election in Fort Collins in which Comcast had invested heavily to oppose a measure to allow Fort Collins can pave the way for a future municipal network.

What could go wrong right guys, we should just leave it to the industry

It would be if this was one company winning over another. Instead it's a case of an ISP trying to buy out democracy with the same money it charges to its customers, so that it can maintain the monopoly.

It's a clear cut case of what Comcast intends to do. That have no intention of self regulating in any fair way that benefits consumers or creates a better product. Their goal is to fuck you, nothing less.

Bribing... I mean lobbying the government to prevent competition from entering your area is working as intended?

The argument is whether the government should have no place in the matter and leave it to the industry to self regulate. If you live in a town where Comcast is the only provider, and you remove government oversight, what should we expect to happen?

I guess the response we should have is whip up those bootstraps, because back in my day nobody had internet at all

Don't worry. Comcast will cover these costs when they start charging you more for internet starting in January!

The stupid thing is that net neutrality wasn't even the thing preventing competition (arguably it's the opposite). It seems to me that it's state and local laws that do that for the most part. You can fix competition without ditching NN. It's not an either or, but that's how proponents of the repeal pitched it.

And due to the tenth amendment and dual federalism, states are going to incorporate their own laws and overrule anything the FCC does to block them.

So lul on them.

FCC said the day they repealed NN they will sue any state that tries to enforce their own NN laws or create their own locally owned broadband.

People already do. Look at municipal broadband.

They can sue all they want. They will not win. Their ruling was not constitutional and violates the 10th amendment.
