Rereading It. Richie is supposed to be the funny kid (even becoming a comedy DJ as an adult), but he is by far the most irritating one and all of his jokes are horrible.

Yeah ... kids aren't known for their great senses of humor.

They laugh at this when they're grown-ass adults <_<

And the jokes Richie makes when he's an adult are the same kinda thing he makes as a kid.

I know there's a line when they hear about Richie becoming a comedy DJ and one of his friends is incredulous because his jokes were always terrible.

I think it's just more difficult to write out how Richie's interest made him successful, because his sense of humor is like his entire character. "Bill is a good writer" and "Ben is a good architect" are things that can just be stated and believed unlike "Richie is a good comedian."

Or maybe it's a joke about how no one could possibly find a comedy DJ funny unless supernatural forces warping reality to make someone financially successful are in play.
