It depends. Y-fronts on middle age and older dudes really plays up the daddy angle, because it's so 'normal' and projects practicality, even if they aren't really all that practical, and look awful when the elastic ages and the undergarment begins to sag.

I really appreciate the audacity of someone in a jockstrap. The jockstrap communicates intention more clearly than actual language.

Other types of underwear may look good, but I don't think they say or do much besides maybe show off your assets.
