Watching a gameplay video it seems extremely simple. One attack. All of the areas are just differently colored squares.

I'm all for retro graphics but is there more to this game?

it's a really great game, and you get more items to use so you're not just using one attack throughout

reminds me of that hint in that Spider-Man 2 game that says "Everybody looks at the controller and whines, 'there's only one attack button'!" and proceeds to explain how that's bullshit

but yeah in terms of attacking options you ain't hurtin' for that.

The game was fun. I beat it in a couple of days and haven't touched the dlc much. The combat isn't really what the game is about though. It's a fantastic platformer. The bosses can pretty much all be cheesed by using the down attack.

Yeah, it's excellent. The levels are quite varied and rely on different gimmicks so it's not repetitive. Also the game is fairly short.

It's a lot like classic Mega Man.

Except you find new abilities/attacks instead of beating bosses for them

There are two tiny towns with a few useful npcs but it's all optional stuff

Game is quite good, fair but tough

The standard swing, the charge swing, pogo stab, flare wand, dust knuckles, anchor, mobile gear, war horn, propeller dagger, and chaos sphere are one attack? And that's to say nothing of the other characters and their completely different movesets.
