I've only ever played the original 1993 game. I don't have a nostalgia bias for Doom; I played it for the first time in 2017. And it's fucking amazing. It is impossible to not have fun while playing this game.

Apparently, every Doom clone from the mid 90's is also pretty fun. Some people will tell you the best Star Wars game ever made was the Doom clone one.

Just a great balance between exploration and combat. That's all Doom is. Action, action, and more action.

So now I've watched several videos of the new Doom. It seems to follow this same formula of action with the perfect balance of exploration and combat. From what I've seen, there's no way it could possibly be a bad game. The formula just doesn't leave any room for flaws that could make it an unenjoyable experience.

So I guess my question is, if you follow the "Doom formula," is it pretty much impossible for the game to be bad? I feel like Doom could be its own video game genre -- a genre of the most perfect FPS games achievable. Am I wrong?

I mean, unless you were releasing it for a horrendous add-on from Sega, no.

It's an ok game now that graphics are no longer impressive. Quake 4 made far better use of the engine though.

Example. You like dooms fast paced kill 60 enemies in a room with 30 percent life ?

Well in doom 3. Slow the pace down. And have 5 enemies attack you at once. They tried to turn it into a survival horror game and it really didnt work. Its playable. But not the same doom

i'd say the wolfenstein 3D. or whatever the one that came before the original DOOM. its not bad just I played DOOM first and its obvious DOOM improved on some things. I got to mecha hitler and just kinda got bored of it after that.

but yes TC get the most recent DOOM i'm not a fan of FPS games generally but I loved the hell out of that game

not shit about to go play fallout 4. best friend gifted me enough money to pick up nuka world as a early christmas present, been meaning to play it just haven't decided how I want to do things as I already know what the end game of nuka world is and i'm not sure if I want my current character siding with the raiders but thats exactly the part of it that interests me about the dlc

I just finally got around to beating the main questline. though I reloaded my file and chose a different path. not sure if I want to reload and do the other 2, or save those for other characters and not spoil those quests.

as far as nuka world though i'm considering making a completely new character just for that dlc. basically a complete dick of a character. have cait be my companion and never have her sober up. can you get the romance with her without sobering her up? if not I may have to sober her up anyways.

yeah if i'm going to build a character around being a raider chems will most likely be commonly used. maybe I should go with Macready. he also likes dick like actions and I doubt he'll care one way or another if my character gets high before charging into battle.

I like hancock but hes too much of a goody for a bad guy character run.

And while the game is actually playable after 20 or so patches, the N64 version was even worse.

yeah you don't have to romance anyone to get their perks. just max affinity. hell if you have super low charisma and don't like reloading to get desired results getting the perks would be hard if you had to romance them

i'd say there is a slight difference between a doom game and a normal (modern at least) fps. DOOM has never put any focus on taking cover to stay alive. its part of why I like the games I tend to be the run and gun type and DOOM lets me do that, if you need to avoid damage its all about strafing rather than taking cover. the latest DOOM rewards you even more for being foolhardey as you gain health for melee execution kills which naturally requires you to be up close and personal

I prefer to think of him as a regular dude whos just that damn badass. but then again story never said he wasn't I guess its possible being in hell he was unable to die (to old age at least) and thats how he had that thousand year battle or however long it was

I mean, it really wasn't a bad game. Had great atmosphere, the engine was way ahead of it's time and impressive as fuck when the first tech demo was released, and it still holds up pretty well.

I think the problem with Doom 3 was, that it was labeled as a Doom game. Compared to the original Doom and Doom 2, the pacing was the biggest difference in this game. It was less of an action fps, and more of a horror fps.

So Doom 3 is a pretty damn good game, it's just not a good "Doom" game.

Yeah. But when your in an umbral plane, time does not exist. Hell he could have walked In the portal at the end of doom 2 and been there a week before trapped We may never know.

that part I missed. the game having more of a storyline other than, here you are, demons broke out of hell go kill them, kinda caught me off guard with the latest one. though I suppose I should have expected it. to be fair though i've only played the original and this one. I think i've played a bit of 2 but never got into it (never owned it) first time I played the original though I was like 5 lol and it was the PC version not the watered down console ports

edit: I finally got and beat doom on the 360 though. except the final chapter but I still consider it beating doom as that final chapter wasn't originally part of the game until ultimate doom released. still plan to go beat it though

never saw the movie. but yeah as I read your signature I literally read it in that voice and the intro music from SC 2 started playing in my head.

hope 6 is better than 4 and 5 was. they where alright games but nothing like 2 or 3 imo. hell i'd even take 1 over 4 or 5. never got to play soul edge though

4 was decent if you ignored create a character imo. thats what killed it for me. 5 just felt really bare bones. and despite me loving street fighter 3 despite most of the cast being new. that fact helped kill 5 for me. I don't recall their even being a proper story in 5 if there was it was shitty as I don't remember it. it very much felt like they only cared about multiplayer modes in that one.

on topic though i'm hoping they do make a sequel to the recent doom. other wise I won't be pleased with that ending, but I guess none of them have definitive endings do they?
