Going back as far as the early 90's, I would leave the water running and it never made any sense as to why I would do that. Then, I found out that thousands of people do. Why do we do this? Do we leave it on because we just don't think about it or are too lazy to turn it on and off when we spit down into to drain? l'm also told that we waste so much water by leaving it on, but that also makes no sense because doesn't your water goes through a water facility, filtered, chemically treated and then cycles back into your tap?

...no.

otherwise you're drinking poop water, and that's not legal.

the water from the treatment facilities come from a natural bodies of water, like rivers, lakes, ect. or underground aquifers

tl;dr There is more water wasted from long showers.

A ton of people just don't care and spend ridiculously long times showering. Just take a bath please, baths are still wasteful but some people dick around in showers for too long. And don't even get me started on wasted food (it's something like 50% of all produced food in the United States alone).

To survive as a species humans have to inevitably damage the planet, but the rate at which we do it is ridiculous. it's important to call out what is really wasteful vs. what is mostly insignificant. otherwise we could say farting damages the ozone - yeah it does, but it's so insignificant compared to other polluters lol (i.e. visit a cattle ranch; incidentally, not eating meat for a week is equivalent to not driving for a year- I love eating meat and won't stop lol (it's also got nutrients not found elsewhere) but that really puts diet + environment into perspective...)

On the plus side, in cities near bodies of water, water can't really be "wasted" because there's so much of it and it naturally replenishes. What's worse is gardening, like some cities in the US waste water with sprinklers on the daily. The city is in a desert. There is not meant to be water there. The water from underground aquifers are not coming back (at least not for a looong time). So droughts will happen sooner than people think, and when it does its a dj khaled congrats you played yourself meme. It's a renewable resource after all, but as with any resource ppl should be more conscious of their consumption of it. Too much of anything is a bad thing...

it depends what you mean by "cycles back into your tap". the waste treatment plant is not hooked directly into the water system, it's released into nature (ie: a river, or sprayed onto the grass).

where I work there happens to be both a water treatment facility and a waste treatment facility in close proximity. the waste treatment output is sprayed on the grass. the water treatment draws from the river.

surely you don't expect people to start taking a bath in order to get ready for work, do you ??

showers are quicker. takes me about 10 minutes to go through the shower, can't recall the very last time I took a bath

anyway..... brushing my teeth is the first thing I do I the shower. I only leave the water running while I shave after taking a shower (every other day that is)

always killed me when my mom would give me shit for taking quick showers. i'd just tell her all I need is a bit over 5 minutes to scrub myself down. you want me to stare at the wall for an extra 10?
