It froze earlier today mid-text, then it just shut off and won't turn on. Can't open the recovery mode and I've tried charging it for hours... nothing.
Was on the phone with Google Support and they told me to talk to Huawei, they told me to spend $150 on a battery replacement service.

Anyone else got any ideas?

I've had a Nexus 4 that often got into the habit of turning off and not turning back on. My solution was to hold the power button (and maybe the Vol- button) for about 30 seconds until it finally snapped back to life.

Mine got stuck in a boot loop and there was nothing that could be done.
