im seeing this tomorrow and im worried i will be super disappointed.

i thought for all the stupid shit in the original trilogies, they were very ambitious and stayed close to the design of the original ones. im not sure how i will feel about whatever new direction the last jedi goes in

I've just kind of accepted that Star Wars isn't what it once was. Even though the PT movies are worse movies than the OT (generally speaking I mean; ROTJ doesn't hold up on the whole), there was still something kind of special about them because they're Star Wars.

Now that they come out once a year, the magic feeling just isn't there.

I liked the movie but the fan backlash really is fair. They wasted so much time on ridiculous plotlines. The Nu Order is so unbelievably more stupid than the Empire it's little better than a saturday morning villain ralts

Finn and Rose's subplot was completely pointless. It spent a good hour of the movie wasting time. It didn't expand on either of the characters nor did it worldbuild other than the obvious "well SOMEONE has to be making the weapons!"

Honestly the movie would have been better off completely if they removed every scene that had to do with disabling the tracker.

Nope the prequels are irredeemable trash that people misremember because they saw them as kids. It's why people can unironically say that Disney is killing Star Wars when George Lucas spent the turn of the century murdering it. The new movies aren't perfect, but Star Wars never has been. You can only expect so much from cheesy sci-fi operas that exist to sell merchandise. And I say that as someone that really likes the OT and the new movies.

Guarantee most of those poor reviews are people who read some out of context spoilers and didn't even see the movie yet.

Seen loads of people on GameFAQs and elsewhere bitch about it because of spoilers they read and then say something like "but I'll still go watch it this weekend"

It had its faults but anyone saying TPM was a better movie is just being a crybaby.

TLJ took too many risks.

Star Wars is too big a franchise to please everyone. I enjoyed TLJ and would much rather they take rises than play it safe.

I don't think the new movies are bad. They're competently made and all, I just don't see myself looking back on these new ones with the same kind of reverence.

I'm willing to question whether it's something to do with my frame of mind than the movies themselves, but I really do believe no property is immune to series fatigue including Star Wars.

What a stupid complaint. "They failed, therefore it was a waste of time."

Not to mention it most definitely did build their characters and the world. How would Rose kissing Finn make any sense if they hadn't gone through that? Why would they have a seemingly random kid (most likely a future Rebel) end the movie?

Because none of it added to the story at all. We already know there's more resistance out there because that was the fleets entire goal on their escape. Wow cool they fleshed out a character they added for the pointless subplot, awesome just what I wanted to spend a third of the movie on. Finn however had nothing added to his character except for a hamhanded romance.

Going in universe now:

Oh by the way the plan was stupid anyway and the admiral (gee admiral isn't exactly a low position maybe she didn't get there out of luck) actually did know what she was doing. Not to mention what exactly was their plan to not die once they turned the tracker off? They had at most 6 minutes to get back to the fleet, did they just plan to chill on the dreadnought?

What was bad about it? I mean it's basically what you would expect from this new Disney Star Wars. It's popcorn flick now, so they better get used to it because that movie is coming out every December for the next 10 years, at least.

It seems fo have got him to stop fawning over Rey. That's not pointless. Also, her catching Finn at the escape pod seems to have guilt-tripped him enough about constantly running away. He wouldn't have nearly kamikazed the laser otherwise.

A resistance that didn't give enough of a shit to respond to their own leader's distress signal. They were showing that there would be continued hope for the Rebels in future generations, not just the scattered "Rebels" that pretty much already gave up.

Wishy posted...

They explicitly said that it would only work if they snuck in, disabled it, and snuck out undetected. Pretty sure they were more concerned with shutting down the tracker than escaping, anyway.

For comparison, here's the rest of the films on RT. Critic score/Audience score:

ANH: 93/96
ESB: 94/97
RotJ: 80/94

TPM: 55/59
AotC: 66/57
RotS: 79/65

TFA: 93/88
RO: 85/87
TLJ: 93/56

Clearly one of these things is not like the others. While I wouldn't put TLJ at 93, it easily should be somewhere around, I don't know, 80/75 split or something.

That's because it is awful and actually destroyed characters from the OT. The worst part of the prequels is that Darth Vader was a whiny brat most of the time, and in TLJ characters are doing nonsensical things and have attitudes completely different from how their characters have been previously portrayed.

It definitely does more damage to the Star Wars franchise.
