8 bucks still on the card. she turns to the person behind her and says hey here you go free 8 bucks. person was definitely happy/thankful.

so i figure why cant I spread some cheer. I loaded a giftcard with ten bucks on it and plan on giving it to somebody. But it sounds horrible I want to make a show out of it.

Person has a total of five dollars, looking in wallet for money, as they turn to pay "nah bro already paid"

hm, we'll see how this goes.

didnt read the whole link but I think he has a point. I mean, some people feel guilted to do something nice, and at 450 customers strong who wants to be the asshole to break that streak.

I dont know how I would react either. I am a nice guy but I generally dont like to be forced to be nice. This little giftcard thing im doing is just because I am a nice guy, but if somebody told me I should do it I would likely not bother.

but would I be asshole customer no. 458? who knows.

Are you really a nice guy when you're seeking gratification from such a act?

i "broke" a streak at a Dairy Queen in my town. i guess a cop started the chain. i was asked and said no, i paid for my stuff and left. im sure the next person was offered tho.

Well, I decided to do this because I wanted to make somebody happy, after seeing somebody do it to somebody else and seeing how happy they got.

I want to "make a show" of it for my own amusement, but it is genuine happiness I want to inflict.

so yeah i'd say I am. Though I was thinking of telling the customer another customer left it behind and told me to use it for somebody because I kinda want to be like a secret santa like figure.

but hey who the hell knows we'll see how this goes down.

what's the point (of the pay it forward thing)? no matter how long it goes for, all that effectively happens is that the first person paid for 1 drink for the last person. I don't see that there's any point doing it in a chain. it would be better for the generous people to just gift random people. then you're accumulating generosity. otherwise all the generosity just cancels itself out.

i am a generous guy at times yeah.

its not really because its christmas but that one act of kindness inspired me.

really my motivations dont matter so much. somebody will still save some $

So I did use my ten dollar giftcard for a family that comes in every sunday and never causes problems and is kind and respectful every time i see them.

so this was cool. i got a hug and the mom was tearing up. the father who never talks(because his wife does it he isnt rude) even said than you several times.

there we go, i get a display AND a feel good story. happy to make somebodies day

The starbucks by my house has this going on like all December. I go through the drive thru, 90% of the time get my drink for free, say thank you and am on my way.

Its awesome.

I've been wanting to get someone's groceries for them since someone did that for me one time a few years ago (I only had a few things). But I always use the self-checkout lanes without thinking.
