Hilarious, as a passive outside observer to the U.S. it's pretty clear that Trump has damaged the Republican reputation so badly that they possibly won't get back into office for 2 or more terms. How someone can imagine a Trump 2020 victory as an encumbent who lost the popular vote whilst the republicans lose Alabama is insane to me, you are living in a false reality.

He did, but his approval didn't really start tanking until AFTER his re-election campaign(and Kerry ran an uninspired campaign.) Even then, his victory was narrow, and his explosive unpopularity led to Obama winning in the closest thing to a landslide we've seen since 1988.

In any case, it seems as though Mueller is nearing pay-dirt. At least, it seems Trump and Co. are getting desperate to make this go away. And, you know what? I think he will can Rosenstein and get Mueller shut-down, and I think the Republicans in Congress will go along with it, because they're desperate too and obviously don't care about popular opinion. And I think a bunch of news outlets are going to get their hands on a lot of really damaging documents right after that.

Bush had 9/11 to bolster his support, and eventually that wore away and people began to realize he was a crappy president. Unfortunately there were quite a few Bush initiatives that Obama only reinforced. Not only that but while Bush was president the Republican party basically had free reign to do as they pleased, people were totally brainwashed.

Anyway. I don't think there's any way Trump could turn the nation into a monarchy so much as an oligarch/dictatorship. And honestly that can't really be credited to Trump, things were set up in such a way for the next president to be able to do that sort of thing whoever it was. It's just very visible with Trump because he's incompetent.
