Eh. I'll get a Switch when the light/improved version comes out in a couple years. They always work out the kinks and end up with a better system by then, plus the older games are cheaper.

Looks pretty fun, but I agree that knowing the characters is half the fun. I might still pick it up, though.

That's true. I believe the developers are hoping to add at least two more indie game characters eventually. I hope it becomes popular enough to become all about indie game characters.

Are the mechanics/controls pretty much the same as smash? The trailer looks like it works exactly like smash. Which I could be into, if it feels right. It would be really easy to get the feel of smash wrong because the control of those games is so good.

The controls are pretty much the same, but it seems the people behind it wanted to make it all about the competitive part of Smash. Mechanics/techniques like wave-dashing, teching, and this air slide are in it. I think it has platform cancels as well. It's meant to be highly aggressive and about trying to keep combos going. No items, shields, or grabs (except for two grapplers).

I read the developer said that it is basically Mortal Kombat if MK was a platform fighter. The movement/animations LOOK less fluid than Smash, but I haven't played it yet. The characters SEEM to move like there is a weight to them that is similar to Playsation All-stars or Mortal Kombat.

Every series has to start somewhere. Fans know and love all the Street Fighter, SoulCalibur, and Mortal Kombat characters. But even they were just nobody original characters once.

Yea, that's why I'm not too worried if the game is just decent. 20 dollars for a Smash-like to tide me over until the real thing is the perfect price.

That's a pretty silly reason. If you don't want one, just don't get one. Justifying it by saying that you want new games from dead series (or in the case of TWEWY, not even a series) is just silly.

Eh, that's not really true. It's the novelty of fighting with familiar characters that sells Smash, because that's a cool idea, but that novelty doesn't last that long once the game itself starts. As far as actually playing the game goes, characters are just models to attach hitboxes and movesets to. Doesn't matter if it's attached to Mario or to Bob the Janitor, the game's going to be just as fun to play.

Ok I've played it for two hours now.
It's kinda different from Smash Bros for sure but I still enjoyed it.
I played five online matches(to complete a challenge). I managed to win 3 out 5. With the two first people I played with it lagged like crazy but with the third guy(who I played against three times in a row) it was fine.
A few gripes I have though is that it seems to be pretty grindy to unlock more characters and that everything is unlocked through purchasable boxes.

No real money involved but you earn in-game currency by playing the game. And for unlocking characters you need these blue crystal-thingys which you unlock from doing challenges.
It will probably take a while to unlock everything.

Also my favourite character so far is King Apu.

The latest Switch update made it so that Cube controllers work in docked mode. Plug in the Wii U adapter, plug a controller into that, go to that controller pairing screen and press A to sync your Cube controller. Works with every game but the lack of a fourth shoulder button kind of sucks.

So the game is okay. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the hitstun and the wacky knockback.

The aerial movement is fantastic though. Offstage shenanigans are amazing, and pulling off maneuvers from far off to get back on stage feels great. It's my favorite thing about the game.

I only played in handheld mode so far but I sucked at the game. Definitely gotta fish out my GC controllers for this one haha

The lack of shielding and grabbing is pretty jarring for me since Ness is one of my SSB mains, but I'm slowly learning to adapt. Also, aerial movements are indeed very satisfying!

It's pretty great with the Cube controller if that's all your used to.

The game gets much better the more you play, but I still can't deal with how the hit stun and Directional Influence work. I'm just starting to think you're meant to be a rag doll with no control over your character when your hit and that's what the rage metre is for.

The online against randoms are usually pretty laggy.
I'm getting more and more into it and I'm having a blast : )
People online do tend to ragequit when they're losing though which is pretty annoying.

The Arcade mode is kinda bullzy at times when the CPU gang up on you on medium and hard difficulties.

I'm loving playing as King Apu. His chaingrab is pretty cheap though so I try to avoid using it too much.
I unlocked Apucalypse yesterday as well and he's essentially a slightly stronger and heavier version of King Apu and his side special hits the opponent instead of grabbing.
I wonder how different the other clone characters are?

Honestly, F King Apu. Most annoying character to fight because his chain grab is so OP. I try to coast outside his range and attack from above, but the games still go even with anyone who spams side-b.

His neutral B for edge-guarding is also pretty ridiculous.

I have only met two King Apus online. One of them spammed the living fuck out of the side special > Side attack repeatedly. It was infuriating.
He eventually ragequitted when I still managed to outplay him and took two stocks off of him without dying once.

I only use the chaingrab when the other guy is playing cheap just to get my revenge.
The side special is useless to use in the air though.

I like to use his down special in the air for that meteor smash. So satisfying.

I also like to use Chief Feathers. His down attack can meteor smash opponents near the edge.

Played King Apu on two separate occasions for an hour and a half to two hours each time. He's so good. I currently think he's the best in the game.

Up air has amazing kill power, he has three spikes (up B spikes with a certain hit box if it's done in the air and angled properly) and all his grounded B moves have insane reach and power. Dude is busted.

When the daily objectives involve playing King Apu, I'm not even upset.

Just before I went to bed yesterday, I met several people who used him. They all spammed the grab.
People have no class...

That grab needs to be nerfed. They should do it how Smash Bros 4 did with chain-grabs(not being able to re-grab them immediately after the first grab).

Yeah he is. Some of his attacks are kinda awkward and they need to be charged or else it won't kill anything.
And his side special needs less cool down.

But yeah, I'm usually also kind of a sucker for shitty characters (Link in SSB64, C. Falcon in Brawl and Ganondorf in SSB4).
