Did it take place over 18 hours? The cruiser ship only has 18 hours of fuel when Finn goes to the casino planet. Everything is resolved before they run out of fuel. So did Rey do all her training in 18 hours too?

Seems weird that we waited 2 years for this movie and only moved forward 18 hours in Star Wars time.

also why can't they just put droids on some ships and have them lightspeed through the death star? Or was purple hair the first to think of that?

Maybe after the beginning. I forget when Rey started training compared to when the Resistance started running away, but there were at least a few day/night cycles while Rey was with Luke.

This reminds me of when they come up with some amazing tech on Star Trek that would be useful in so many scenarios that we only see employed in one episode and is never mentioned again.

they never said it, but I took the rey scenes to be over a period of time. like, she followed luke for awhile before her first force facetime with kylo
but even that would only buy like a week or maybe a month at most

so I guess you're right. reminds me of empire with luke training with yoda. I know we generally accept it was over a period of months, but there's nothing to really indicate it
really makes the republic jedi order look bad (although I assume they did more than just force learning and they aren't as gifted as luke/rey, so eh)

but yeah, the lightspeed jump was bad for many reasons

Tbf it's also been suggested that time on planets incredibly strong in the Force can experience a dilation/relativity kind of effect.

has it? that's pretty neat
I figured star wars tried to avoid that kinda thing given the near-instant two way communication worked, but if true that's a nice piece of closure

Not in canon necessarily, but Pablo Hidalgo has raised the possiblity. I like it personally.
