I just remembered the movie literally had Alolan Vulpixes in it for some reason.

That's all guessing though

Not really. Movies should do this more often, actually, show not tell. They clearly showed that Leia is capable of using the Force, so that means she's a Force user. Even if you didn't know that before, you do now. And you can infer that she may have trained a bit in the past 30 years. They don't have to outright tell you.

I actively disliked all the casino scenes and would honestly prefer the film without them.

I actually really liked those scenes, but I found it so weird that we had basically a sidequest when the main plot was about the Resistance being unable to escape. It was very unusual to include something like that, scriptwise.

THEDavyJones posted...
Whoever voiced Yoda, though, couldn't understand him very well. Frank Oz might be too old for the role.

It was Frank Oz. I'm assuming people would have freaked if they didn't get him to do the part again, but yeah, it was kind of rough.

I enjoyed how this movie mostly undercut expectations. Sometimes for better (Rey being a nobody), sometimes for worse (Snoke's half-ass death with a lack of explanation to who he is), and sometimes just for shits and giggles.

I assume her parents being no one was to throw us off. I think there's still a secret there. And I'm sure we'll get Snoke's origins in the next movie too, because I'd like to know where the fuck he came from and how he's so powerful in the Force.

I honestly don't. I think this was the director's attempt to give the next movie such a clean slate to work with.

No Emperor Palpatine proxy, no "who are Rey's parents" origin to explain, etc.

Finn was a lot better in this movie, I think. He was less goofy, and he got shit done. Not sure how I feel about Rose and it looks like there may be a love square with Rey and Poe, or some shit. Not looking forward to that, but hopefully it was just my imagination. I don't think Rey needs a love interest at all.

like I liked some of the little swerves in the last scene, like making it appear Finn was about to make this big heroic sacrifice and then not (which goes along well with what Leia/Poe were arguing about a lot of the movie that they don't just need dead heroes)

also Luke making it seem like he was about to directly quote Obi-Wan but instead telling Kylo that those who love him will always be with him and making it seem like a curse instead of a blessing was excellent

I think Finn clearly loves Rey even if Rose essentially admitted she loved Finn at the end. I like how Rey introduces herself to Poe, and he's just like, "I know," because Finn talks about her all the time.

and maybe Rey doesn't need a love interest but I'll be rooting hard for Finn to win anyway in Episode IX

Also, what did people think of Holdo? Because I thought that plotline was... pretty bad.

I was expecting her to have some super good reason to keep Poe in the dark, or turn out to be a traitor that was deliberately sabotaging the Resistance's escape but... nope. She just decided to be vague about their plans for no reason, which ends up being the correct thing to do since Poe's plan is not only pointless, but actively causes more harm than anything, and the whole mutiny he raises is shrugged off in a ridiculously lightly manner. While I can appreciate how it was kind of subversive in how things don't go how you might expect, most everything about that plotline bothered me.

The point of that was Holdo's calm, restrained approach to Poe's headstrong, shoot first ask questions later approach, and how both have their places.

Basically, otherwise Poe being always right and Holdo being that "YOU'RE A LOOSE CANNON POE" type authority figure would be too cliche.

That felt like what they wanted to convey, yeah.

maybe Episode IX will just be a wacky romantic comedy where Finn bumbles around through a series of misunderstandings and unfortunate accidents that Rey happens to walk in on at the wrong time and jumps to the worst possible conclusions

earn that happy ending Finn

I mean, I get the character development, but it's still super weird that after stealing control of the ship away from her and nearly getting everybody killed she's like "lol, that's classic Poe" and doesn't really care.

And WHY didn't she just tell him about the plan the make it to the nearby uncharted rebel base. If not the first time when maybe she feels it's not necessary to know (why not?), then how about when he thinks she's abandoning ship and clearly going to do something irrational.

CALLED REN KILLING SNOKE

After force awakens

I called that shit so much I was so proud of myself. Nobody here probably remembers it but I did

They were hinting too much at Ren turning - to me it felt too much like they were trying to recreate Vader, it was too heavily foreshadowed that he would turn, so instead he's going to turn BAD. FULL BAD. AND USURP SNOKE

I thought it was really great. The characters were more interesting and enjoyable here than in Force Awakens. Some of the decisions the writers made were iffy like the thing with Leia (though some have explained it so it's okay I guess) and Luke dying earlier than expected. But other than that, I think it was a well put together film. Definitely the best one of the new films.
