When confronted with the possibility of electing a racist homophobic pedophile, black people in Alabama stood up and said "no".

This will only lead to more voter suppression in black neighborhood. Not that they're not already trying their hardest.

You're right, this will probably justify their attempts to suppress the black vote again.

A few things about this:

1) What are the actual numbers of votes, not percents.
2) If every white person would have voted for Moore, he would have won. So black and white people who voted for Jones got him elected.
3) Don't black people vote democrat normally?

Edit:
However, although Trump fared little better among blacks and Hispanics than Romney did four years ago, Hillary Clinton did not run as strongly among these core Democratic groups as Obama did in 2012. Clinton held an 80-point advantage among blacks (88% to 8%) compared with Obamas 87-point edge four years ago (93% to 6%). In 2008, Obama had a 91-point advantage among blacks.

What does "paying attention" mean, exactly?

Probably not, because any white Republican candidate who wasn't a child molester would have won easily.

Those 30% of white voters are just as responsible. If even 10% of them voted for Moore instead, he'd have won. Also, it's not like black people don't vote 90%+ for Democrats in every election, so the real difference here was the white voters who went for Jones or who sat this one out entirely.

Alabama has always paid attention to its black population. That is why the voter rights act was created. And modern voter suppression efforts are also because Alabama pays attention to its black population.

Probably true, considering the margin.

I think this is true, but with the caveat that perhaps this will inspire democrats in areas like Alabama to vote since it's now clear that "your vote doesn't matter" is bs

The numbers show that it was white suburban women who normally vote Republican but who couldn't stomach Moore as a candidate that made the difference.

If Moore had been switched out a couple weeks back like McConnell wanted, they (likely) would've just "blindly" voted Republican again.

If it makes any difference, just realize that this exact reaction is what Hillary Clinton's team had been definitively banking on in 2016. That's why you got so many exasperated reactions post-presidential election about how women were voting 'against their own' by going with Trump. Like from Michelle Obama. I think a candidacy like this kind of just reinforces how unpopular H.R.C. was - Jones was pretty much a whitewashed guy who nobody really knew anything about, in contrast, making him a pretty solid foil.

This.

If all of the white folks who voted supported a racist, homophobic pedophile instead of just most of them, it would have gone the other way.

Unfortunately, going by black demographics in the South, the homophobia is probably not a factor for the blacker voters overwhelming supporting Jones.

lol, no. its likely more black people than average voted in this sparred by moores comments. on the other end a lot of white people never even showed up to vote because of moore and them really disliking democrats. if you actually put a decent republican candidate in front of them youll probably get another 2:1 win in the rights favor. moore was just that bad.
