Some of you guys probably know me as the CE dev guy. If not, I make lovecraftian horror mods. I've made two for Crysis, both have good reviews, I've moved on. Not really gonna rattle that drum unless people are curious.

On to the future. I'm thinking of making another total conversion mod for a much more modern engine, but I'm entirely out of the loop on what is played enough to gain an audience and what has powerful enough tools to supplement existing assets ala Crysis, which I was using.

I was looking at Amnesia/SOMA editors but those are extremely crude. Might be good, though. I don't know. What do you guys think I should make a big, conversion, custom story mod for?

Breath of the Wild had some fantastic (hilarious) mods. I dunno how they do it, but that seems to be the hot new modding scene as of recently.

Possible to use the shell of the game to coax out a custom narrative, or is it more of a modification of the core game eg combat/balance/items/enemy placement?

pretty sure botw mods are just model swaps.
half life 1 mods have a certain charm to them, and judging by the guys who did cry of fear/afraid of monsters, you seem to be able to do a lot with that engine. i'm no dev though so I wouldn't have a clue.

Honestly I've just seen cosmetic changes and custom weapons/enemies, so I can't tell you how deep the ability to customize is. That being said, you could see it as a challenge to create a narrative without a single line of dialogue with clever item/enemy/asset placement. If you're looking for something BUILT for modding (like a Neverwinter Nights, or a Bethesda game), than BotW is probably not a good choice though.
