...if you think about it.

I'm talking about the scene where Batman physically tortures the Joker while Joker makes no attempt to fight back, or never even attacked him first.

Batman just wailing on a defenseless guy because he's Batman. Wow, how heroic.

That scene takes me out of the movie. It operates on the logic that, as long as you don't let pain bother you, nothing can physically harm you. Batman's beating would've killed a bull moose five times over and the Joker doesn't even stagger back to his feet.

At the very least, he should've been left dazed and dizzy. They had the good sense to have the Joker limp out of his car when it crashed, so why not do the same with Batman's beating? I get that it's a commentary on the Bush administration and the ineffectiveness of interrogation, but let's have a little bit of fucking logic in play here.

The Dark Knight is the only movie I can think of where the best scene is also the worst scene. The banter is incredible, but the beating just comes across as ridiculous.

I've always wanted to see somebody do a YouTube video of that scene dubbing in dialogue from the beating scene in Tommy Boy.

"Hey look, it's Papa Smurf!"
"If I wanted a kiss, I would've just called your mother!"

I hate how Joker just no sells everything. Batman smashes his hand and Joker only has a "huh" kind of reaction. Plus Bale's dumb yelling.

Joker was dazed, after Batman slammed his head into the table. And he also got knocked to the floor and stayed there for the rest of the scene.

Not true. It is for the same reason he doesnt use guns: he doesnt want to stoop to the criminals level

but he would be a good guy with a gun. He'd be the most noble among us.

I think the not being able to stop is correct. I remember a comic panel where he basically says that.

Well, obviously Batman works in gray areas and the movie makes it a point to get you to understand that. He bars the door and everything. Even breaches all those peoples' privacy at the end.

Heres the thing I didnt like about The Dark Knight:

Why at the end does everything have to be blamed on Batman? Sure, I get you dont want to pin it on Harvey Dent, but why does it all of a sudden have to be pinned on Batman? It makes no sense at all. It was so dumb and just to setup the ending speech. Granted, its a good speech but it makes absolutely no sense.

I dunno. It's a very flawed movie in how it deals with themes it thinks its grown enough to handle, but it's not remotely. I think the film does what it can to show that Batman is in the wrong, though. Ultimately what he does is exactly what the Joker wanted and his "torture" didn't work.

It seems more like he's being facetious about the blow to the head. He doesn't come across as dizzy or worn down in any way. Even staying on the floor feels like he's choosing to sit down. He immediately gets back up and gets the best of a guard.
