i went to order some delivery a bit ago, and i wanted chicken chow mein.

the dude on the phone asked if i knew what that is, i said yes, because who the fuck doesn't?

then he said it's just cabbage.

what?

i ordered it anyways.

what i received is not chow mein.

it's chop suey.

the reason i know he knows i said chow mein and not chop suey, is because he repeated my order back to me at the end of the call.

Can you order by number next time to make sure you're getting the right food?

When I order chow mein from my local place, it's bean sprouts and cabbage in a broth (with meat,if ordered) with orange cracker-like things on the side.

In the menu, they say chop suey is the same as the chow mein, but without the crackers.

If I want a noodle stir fry, then I order the Lo Mein. The lo mein I get doesn't have cabbage in it.

Then he is, indeed, a very silly man.

that's not what chow mein is, though

chow mein has noodles and shit, it's essentially lo mein but made differently

but i guess this is a trend https://www.reddit.com/r/chinesefood/comments/4d91tx/i_ordered_chow_mein_today_for_the_first_time_from/

chow mein literally means stir-fried noodles, ffs

According to google, you're correct.

But according to at least two western chinese restaurants. . .

I encountered that once in the US and it was really weird. I thought maybe it was an order mix up but they insisted it was chow mein. Their lo mein was chow mein. Confusing place

i've had their lo mein, it is lo mein and not chow mein masquerading as lo mein

i don't really like lo mein because the noodles are thick and oily. i prefer chow meins thinner noodles

there's two chinese places here, but only one delivers. the one that doesn't has the real chow mein
