The original FF7 was episodic as well. It came with three discs and you had to switch discs at certain points in the game. Doesn't that make it episodic?

I'm pretty it has more to do with waiting between episodes than the concept itself. People want the full package right out the gate.

I think all the gameplay of Final Fantasy VII could have fit on one disc but the CG cutscenes are what made 3 discs necessary

That is indeed the case. All three discs have the full game on each of them, but they have different CG cutscenes.

I'll be honest, I would have fucking jumped at this. I have a perpetual nostalgia boner for ff7, and playing it again with modern graphics is what I want. They seem to want to make it a different game, and that doesn't excite me near as much.

They promised that they were adding so much new content that each disc would have an entire separate games' worth on it.

If they actually keep that promise I have no issue with how they're releasing the game. One of the major complaints I had from the original is that we never really got to explore Midgar.

Ditto. I probably would buy a PS4 for this (among other games but it would be the initiating force).

Did they come out with a release date yet?
