Some drama in Venezuela, but that's about it. At least there is more going on there than in Australia/Oceania.

Do you think Ecuador or Peru would be a good place to live? They both have lower costs of living with gorgeous landscape tbh

I'd say either Argentina or Uruguay are the best places to live in South America.

I went to high school with a guy who immigrated here legally with his family from Peru. His dad was a senator and they moved here and his family made way more money as a manager at a small diner in a suburb of my city.

He said that that place is utterly filthy, people just throw trash on the ground everywhere and that no one can get a job at all because there just isn't any jobs.

It's like I said his dad was a senator and they made way more money with him working as a manager at a small diner.

Quito looked so run down last time I went there in 2013. It was like half the city was in poverty. My family had a good house in Quito though, I guess we were in a nicer place in the city, but still they wouldn't let us go out anywhere on our own because Quito is dangerous and crime ridden.

The Andes Mountains were beautiful though, so untouched by nature, but there were still people living there and restaurants out in the middle of nowhere. I couldn't imagine living in the mountains.

We only stayed one night in Guayaquil, but it was in a really cheap motel with uncomfortable beds. Didn't like it, but I imagine Guayaquil would be better than Quito. Manta was beautiful though, probably because it was a tourist town along the Pacific and we stayed in a hotel I think.

Obviously given the open-endedness of the topic's point and how various Central American countries have similar issues to South America, bringing up El Salvador is hardly an issue.
To say nothing of the fact that most Latin American's consider the separation of North, Central, and South America to be ridiculous and that we're all just Americans.

Chile is probably the country most prepared for Earthquakes in the entire world. Last one didn't do shit

Yeah, my house didn't even got a crack, and I live relatively close to the epicentre.

The only houses that were affected had more than 50 years, and not even every house older than that were affected.

I was told that Japan was asking for chilean construction engineers when the earthquake happened.

That explains why you think countries are basically the same because they have "the same problems".

I didn't say they had the same problems. I said they had similar problems.
All of Latin America has been fucked by a variety of issues: the Pink Tide, neoliberalism, multinational corporations, the war on drugs, other countries involving themselves, civil wars, the World Bank / IMF, earthquakes, etc.

Not all have had every problem and some have managed to get better over time, but many countries have not. The effects of these problems; gang violence, dictators, low employment, poverty, etc. are shared by many countries. For someone to group in South America with Central America, a distinction that is not even consistent depending on country and subject, should be more than ok unless you're being a pedantic ass.

my folks are from Paraguay. They immigrated to America in their twenties but the rest of the family never made it over here so we visit every couple of years. It's not the most advanced place, but everyone seems to be happy with what they got there. Always appreciated that ability.

Isn't there a CEman here who lives in Brazil or something?

My cousin and his family moved to Chile for his job several years ago. Apparently they like it there. Cheap to live and by the ocean, but allegedly no wall outlets.

also, I didn't mean to start an argument over south/central america. I just thought of my paper when I was reading some of the responses, forgetting that el salvador is not in south america
