But to who is it plain?

To your ears because it's your native accent.

It's funny, working at a bar, in Toronto, I can spot an American instantly when they speak. American accents are very recognizable.

So am I the one without the accent because I'm Canadian and American accents stand out from the crowd? Or do I have an accent because only Americans "dont have accents"?

Or maybe we all have accents and it comes down to what your familar with, making accents a relative thing.

Nope. There is a standard with no accent. It's how newscasters speak. If your accent is different than that, you're the one with an accent, even if everyone around you is speaking the same way.

So what about Newscasters that speak in different languages other than English? Are they too also a "no accent" or maybe it's just like how MachoManSavage said that a "no accent" it's just what you're familiar with. I too also thought that I spoke without an accent until I visited my cousins from Vietnam and said that I spoke Vietnamese with an American accent.

I don't know how you can't understand this though.

The Newscaster accent is an accent.

Accent is how you pronounce something.

Newcasters have to pronounce things.

Otherwise, every language ever is accented, except the "standard newscaster accent" which is the one accent that isn't an accent, which ALSO happens to be your accent (what are the odds!).

And the standard American accent isn't as standard as you might think. Again, what you hear is what you think is a no accent, because you are used to it. American accents stand out when they are the minority (like a Canadian city). Why do you have a higher claim to the no accent clause than me?

Tldr we all have accents

I don't. None of my friends do. It's easy not to

You do. All of your friends do too. It's impossible not to.

Accents develop based on the voices you hear while growing up. You will naturally start to mimic the way those people accent how they speak the words they use as well as their cadence, camber, pitch, etc. etc. etc..

I have a midwestern U.S.A. accent, which a great deal of people within the U.S. don't seem to consider an accent at all because it's basically the accent of broadcasting and considered "normal". This is still a f***ing accent.

Why do other people not speak like, whatever you seem to think is not having an accent? Cause they speak how they grew up speaking, or maybe english is not their first language [and thus they are likely smarter than you since they know more than the 1 language you know. ].

Take, people from Japan. It has 101 different phonetic sounds [don't quote me on that, been a while]. None of these make the same sound of the letter L. The closest thing is the letter R. Which is why they often substitute L with R when speaking english, because they aren't used to making that noise. Aaaannnd I'm pretty sure if you attempted to speak French you'd be throw for a loop with a lot of the sounds in their language. Or the ! sound within some african languages. Why? Because it's f***in' hard to master a language you didn't grow up speaking.

Also, you don't strike me as terribly smart. You're not even aware you speak with an accent.

I think the accent stereotypes in America are really played up tbh. Excepting maybe the Bostonian accent, which can legitimately be a little mind-bending if you're not prepared for it. It's also an accent that is actually celebrated stateside in a way. A lot of us sound somewhat similar now due to so much exposure to movies/TV (which of course use a standardized "American" accent largely). But in Britain/Ireland? Yeah, there are some really fucked up accents over there. Places like Liverpool, all of Scotland, etc. Irish people speaking English fast as well.

Here, try this Irish guy speaking English out:
