What's the best way to do this. Just going out on the ice and learning yourself. Or take lessons ?

Honestly, I've had minor interest in this. I would watch the Olympics and be like "Damn, imagine doing all of the things these people are capable of doing. I'd love to try!.... But I suck at all forms of skating."

If you're just trying to learn how to skate normally, just go start trying, maybe look online for some tips first to try not to bust ass too much. If you mean actually getting good and doing tricks and shit then take lessons. It'll probably be expensive, but you'll learn proper form from the start and won't have any bad habits to unlearn.

I am not looking to learn how to anything but skate. Heck I am even going to use Hockey skates so I will not even be tempted to do any tricks or things like that. LOL.

Well just straight up skating isn't hard to learn at all, I was able to do it holding my mom's hand when I was pretty much a toddler and by the time I was a bit older, like 5 or so I was able to do it on my own fine.

You'll bust ass a few times so just take it slow for a bit and try to stay to the sides and don't worry about looking dumb for it lol. You'll get the hang of it enough pretty quickly. I found it easier to learn to ice skate than use roller blades.

I picked up roller blading in a day. So I guess I would be fine.

Don't look down and try to lean slightly forward.

Just go to a rink and rent some skates. Bring another person who's new too.

Personally, I skate on my ankles and hate it. Just can't get comfortable.

I learned on my own. Make sure to remember that you can't be the first person to take off their skate and try to stab somebody since that goes to Happy Gilmore.
