Let's take a standalone concept and tack on the name of an existing intellectual property, despite having nothing at all to do with the source material, because remakes are more marketable than original properties. They've never watched the Michael J. Fox comedy, they never read any of the Archie Comics, but they just need that little comfort blanket of knowing that what they are watching is loosely tied to something preexistent.

We're so fixated on established properties that we can't even watch fucking TV shows without a brand name attached to them. It's consumerism in the extreme.

Um, there are more Archie comics than the old gag ones.

Lucifer annoys me, although I haven't seen it much, because it's a fucking police procedural.

True. It's not very accurate to the comics

I have nothing against these shows existing. I'm just pissed that they carry titles of stories they have nothing to do with. I don't remember a puberty metaphor about a basketball playing werewolf having any horror movie elements, nor do I remember Mel Gibson's bushy mustache from the Lethal Weapon movies.

If you have an original property to sell, make it an original property. The same goes for the audience. Take a chance on a show because you like the ideas in play, not because you've heard a name before and want to see the young people's version of what the previous generation might have enjoyed.
